View Full Version : Spawn

01 January 2007, 01:11 PM I recently started this two part animation with Spawn. The first piece, which I am posting here (, is of him leaping down from a fire escape. The second piece will be of him attacking a creature in the alley.

I'm not done with this half just yet, but I wanted to post my progress and get some feedback on what I have so far. Any and all comments/suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Also, I am kind of on the lookout for someone who might be interested in helping me with the cloth sim for his cape. I am going to play around with it, but I have never really done too much with cloth and I don't want to ruin the whole animation because of it.

I like it - the overall movement is really good.

Does he fall very quickly? Once he jumps off and his hand is on the rail he accelerates in a flash- looks a little odd.

Looks really good!!

He jumps a little slow I think. Is reaction to the antecipation of the jump should be faster.
I agree with Kaptain Kubrick too. You just need to adjust your spacing.

Good Work!

Thanks for your comments guys :D

It always helps to have some fresh eyes on these things. I will take your advice and do some tweaks with the timing. I should have an update posted soon.

I like the animation; it fits in the Spawn Style. It also makes me very curious to your Spawn model

I have a small point of critics, You said that you want a cape in this animation, but doesn’t that make the jump go slower en smoother then it is now, according to the movie and cartoons, he flies down sort of speak and not just go straight down to the ground because of the gratify

oh yeah just so you know he tends to land more like a cat, like knees more bent, but thats cool man!

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to give me their feedback. Work got a little crazy for awhile so the personal stuff had to get put on the back burner.

Jeroen - Andrew Hwang ( modeled him and Jon Robins ( did the set up. I see your point about the speed of the animation with the cape, but damn it would look cool. :buttrock:

goku112 - The landing is far from finished, that was more or less a place holder. I am waiting to finish that part until I have the second character's approach closer to being done.

Anyway, here is a new update ( I have been working on the creatures walk cycle. I still need to make some adjustments to the head and a few other things, but have a look and tell me what you think so far.....

This character looks like he's pretty heavy. I think that you should add a camera shake. Really subtlely.

ok the animation is lookin good but, from what i can see when he starts to leap he dosent seem to pull him self in next at the height of the leap his arm that is gripping needs to extend a bit more or stright to support him.

looks ok so far,
for the jump same thing, the anticipation and the hang are a lil too slow, other than that its fine.
the creep looks kinda repetitive, some variation would be nice

when i first saw this animation last night, i thougth it was fine, but after watching it again this morning the jump does seem a bit slow, not the fall itself just the jump off of the platform. the motion looks good. maybe just reduce the time by a third?
