View Full Version : MR Martin's WIP Thread
12 December 2006, 10:46 AM
Hello Everybody. It's 24th Dezember and I've got a few days of freetime to do some Painting.
I decided to make my own WIP thread with a view for Critic, feedback and help.
As you will notice, I'm still at a beginning stage and so for that reason I would be grateful for every view you take at my Thread.
So lets start with my Current WIP:
I named it: Forbidden Tree.
There is no Sketch for the whole painting but i will try to take that in hand in the next days.

Long time no paint!
I made a break in painting for a cupple of month and hopefully i will now start with new energy.
I have to do five 2D Paintings for an admission test of an Art&Media School. (Topic: Underground)
Because I'm still trying to learn painting i feel so limited in realizing my ideas.
Maybe somebody can give me hints in lightning and texturing, especially painting rocks.
I wonderd if I should blur some areas to reach more deepnes.
Enough theory, here is what I've got.
feel free to crit

Two new updates:
Started to work with color:
Adding details here and there.
I'm thinking about adding a character in front of the Tunnel entrance.
Still dont know how to paint rocks.
I took some sharp edged stones as a reference
for the snake head. This looks more dangerous, i like that.

I can't understand why some people only need a few hours to finish their paintings.
I have to improve my speed and technique!
What do you think about the sharp edged stones on the snake head?

no comments yet?! This looks awesome so far. I lovedt he original sketch with the flowing/falling lava and I think you should work that in to the latest version(maybe dripping from the snakes fangs?) I just enjoyed the bright contrasting colors more. I'm still surprised you haven't gotten any comments yet on this piece...it looks promising!

Thanks for the kind words. Thats a good idea with the flowing lava, because I still dont know what to paint in the right area.I will test a few things, maybe such puddles of lava ordered like a stair. I think there is a sight in Turkey "Pamukkale" such natural chalk stairs filled with water. Unfortunately I cant work over the weekend.

Hi Woox!!!(love that name,ha,ha)This is coming along really great!
Maybe just that the contrast and saturation should be a bit less in the background to bring in more depth in the pic.I subscribe!

thx, my name is from a sound speaker system i saw a long time ago in a store. I appropriated it ;-) .
I will definitively follow your suggestion. But unfortunately i can't paint till Monday.
stay subscribed ^^

It is hard to distinguish your contraposto but I am certain it is a little off. Eliminate the muddiness of the lower body. Her left breast should come UPWARDS because her arm is pulling the mass in the opposite direction of gravity. You can help this out by lowering her right breast. She also is missing her clavicles.

Thanks for the hints, i will work on this piece when i finished my current WIP and the other stuff for the School application project. I'm so looking forward to get back to some quick speedpaints. Do you have any tipps on books concerning extremities and other anatomy stuff refering to painting?
Here I've got a little update of my current WIP, i changed the right bottom area and I will get rid of the left rock pillar in the back of the cave. I will also change the color of the Main rock pillar in the center. I'm still not pleased with the textur and color of the rocks. The Rock-Snake body which astricts the right side isn't easy to do, Cause it's very close to the looker, it should have plenty of details but i dont know which kind of stone/rock i should paint.
But I think I'm learning a little bit while progressing with the picture.
