View Full Version : Full Throttle - Redesign

12-23-2006, 03:13 PM
Hi, I'm taking part on a contest at 3d4all.org (a brazilian cg message board).

It's a redesign challenge, we are supposed to pick an old 2d game and recreate it's characters.

I've picked Ben, from Full Throttle to do.

Here is what I have so far, hope you like it!

A 3d sketch for the face done in Mudbox.

The low poly head done with Silo's surface snapping features:

High and Low

And the low cage

In the concept you seemed to give him girlish legs. The knees shouldnt be as pushed in as they are. They need to be a bit thicker ya know?

Looks great though. Surprised that anyone still remembers this game.

Indeed, that was a great game, i like what you have so far, keep it up!

Surprised that anyone still remembers this game.

Surprised?... heh.. you really shouldnt be
becuase its a SUPERB classic game.... i still own it and i played it about 4 weeks ago :D

but about you model
i agree that the legs are kinda girl'ish ... they are cool but not really all that good fitting with a bad ass biker ;)
but it looks great tho
keep it up

You guys must have really bad taste in women, haha. I don't think the legs are girlish, if they were, then damn I'd fear ta kick from such woman. I think they look fine, part of the style he's going for. Love the model man, very well done, well proportioned and very clean mesh. Great job.

at's some really nicely sculped face...really matches the concept.
his legs could use a small amount of beefing, they look a bit too skinny compared to his arms.
awesome otherwise, can't wait to see more!

Thanks a lot for your comments guys :)

I don't think his legs are girlish, but you can be sure I don't want him to look any feminine at all, so if at the end, when the model is done his legs gives any wrong impression of his nature, I'll tweak them :)

The update, worked on the eyes, hair and mouth of the high poly and started the low poly hair.

that is looking awesome
god i miss that game:(
actually all those sort of 2d point and click adventures like simon the sorcerer and monkey island

Looking cool so far... may be a few lines on the face that could use a little softening...

Curious to see how the hair turns out

I still have the original monkey island. That game ROCKED! All of the sierra games in that time were the same sorta breed. The 2d clickers that had an interessting story line with alot of laughs for both children and adults. And some of them were really hard to figure out too. None of this over in a day stuff like now.

That's looking really nice and stylized. I loved the original Full Throttle. I always felt that that was one of those games that would make a fun movie.

Thank you very much guys :)

Here is the update, working on the body... still very wip.

Hope you like it.

Hope we like it? I like it :) Truely stunning work. I'm not too sure if his torso needs to be that ripped because in the concept he's wearing a t-shirt. Also, the collar bone is bothering me, it seems to dip super low, I know it's not going for realism but even for a stylized character it looks out of place. Obviously you know a great deal about anatomy and you've made your choice but that's what I see. Great work keep us posted, this will turn out really great!

Thank you very much XTitan :)
About the collar bone, yeah, I know what you mean, the problem is that this is not a single mesh, the head and the body are two completelly separeted meshes, so it's not easy to make them seamless. I'm planning on fixing it on the normal map.
His torso will be covered by the shirt, but I wanted to place the muscles to have a better felling of the shape before modelling the shirt.

Thanks for taking your time to comment ;)

Looking FANTASTIC! The leg problem is fixed from what I saw. They arnt too skinny at the knee in the model like I thought before.

Keep it coming, I look forward to seeing him all done and cell shaded!

Well... i have too say that i afterall dont think they look "girl'ish"... BUT they look less man'ly or should i say "like ben" but i do defenetly like what you have going there... and yeah as you say.. if the legs turn out too "girl'ish" for the final peace... its just a bit of tweaking :D looking very good

Amazing, Perfect Balance between style & realism !

I love it man nice control you have on your mesh, thats something i found really hard to do when modeling stylized characters. Great stuff cant wait to see it finished.
