View Full Version : Photoshop and Wacom Pressure Sensitivity Issue

02 February 2003, 06:30 PM

I am having in issue in photoshop with the pressure sensitivity of my wacom tablet. Sometimes when I start a stroke no matter how soft the pressure is jumps to 100 percent. This doesnt happen all the time. But happens in phases its seems like. I know a lot of CG artists who suffer from this issue and most of the them find it just infuriating. If anyone has any fixes, ideas, suggestions. I did get the newest drivers, if any thing it seems like its worse, and im using a 9x12 intous2.

Go into your Wacom settings and turn off the double click from the nib. I think that should help.

I have done that, I dont believe this is the same issue that other people are having. Cause as far as I know. That has no effect.

ok, maybe this is the problem... but I doubt it. I just found this comment anyway...

"Logitech Mouseware software conflicts with Wacom Driver"

The solution is to remove the mouseware advanced features, your mouse will work properly but without the really fancy features.

Maybe this?

"if you have M$ Outlook running and 'notify' on then you will find that ur opacity will change to 100% to solve this problem i switched it off in my Outlook and no longer get the opacity change"

Thanks for looking into this.

I have a logitech mouse, but I have just the basic microsoft win2000 driver that comes in win2000. So I dont know if the advanced features are on or not, cause there isnt any options for them. I will however look into it.

I use outlook express but rarely leave it open

Im gonna put this thread on Sijun as well,

It could also be your RAM. Does it only do it after a little while of drawing? Clear your RAM by going edit > purge.

Or this?

"Keep your tablet at least 6 to 8 inches (maybe more?) away from your monitor as it can cause the pen to act strangely if it's too close. "

NOOOOOO!!!! This is where I'm getting my answers from. Sijun, just do a search and you'll find exactly what I have. Go ahead if you want, but all you'll get is "Do a search n00b". Quite rightly so. :p

oh well

still no go, a reboot seems to stop it, but it returns eventually.

I seem to notice it more when im drawing/painting as opposed to doing textures

hrm, ok. You can apparently get rid of it by closing the brush pallete and then reopening it. I can't say I've checked this myself, but...

Irritating? yes, but it beats a restart!

I am having the same problem running pshop 7 in osx. When I go to paint something with the tablet the screen cursor just freezes in a position untill I stop mving the tablet pen - then a strait line appears from the original starting point to the place I lift the pen from. To make it work properly I have to start a brush stroke gently. this seems to be the same with my mouse...

AHA! maybe we're missing the point here... I recall that there was a patch released for PS7! visit Adobe and find it! Hopefully that will iron out the problems.

My Solution:
I go to start and type tablet.exe. Then use the mouse - undo - and start using the pen again. It works for me, but I agree, it is a pain.

Hi all!

I don't have such problem with PS, but sometimes when I stay to much time without using the pen, the tablet don't recognizes the pen until I hit the mouse, but anyway I'm using Painter to do more complex painting work, I don't like the way photoshop handles the wacon features and he doesn't suport tilt feature from wacom tablets, and painter have more control over brushes.

See Ya!

Tilt! yeah it does! I could have sworn i used the airbrush with it working on my tilt angle... PS7

wow, that looks chronic! damn irritating.

Time for technical support

I'm having this problem too. It's really annoying :(

Wacom works fine for me. Is it only on certain brushes? if so maybe you check your brush settings, I'm sure everyone's made the mistake of overlooking things in there. Also make sure in your Wacom Control Panel you've got everything set the way you want it.
