View Full Version : Colt M4... best approach?

What would be the best way to model a gun? I'm new to LightWave so I'm not sure of the modeling methods, even after struggling through that huge reference guide, heh.
In the image below you can see all the intricate pieces and curved edges involved... what would best suit that type of modeling? I'm aiming for photorealism, render time is not a concern. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

Start with a box, then begin working your way down the gun. A background image in modeler would be helpful. Then you basically, smooth shift, drag points, knife your way to a credible model (hopefully, as in my case, hehe)

the m4 is one of the handsomest carbines out there, imho. :)
i dont bother subpatching. if you do subpatch, freeze it, so that you can work with booleans, which, i reckon, you'll find advantageous.
good luck, and do post your progress. i'd enjoy seeing it. :)
