View Full Version : renderfarm and memory

Hi there!

I really don't get it, so can someone please give me a hint:

If we wanna setup a (mini) renderfarm for maya (and may also use for combustion), I thínk I don't need a big graphiccard and not much HD-space for each slave (sure some diskspace for the master :) )

But what about memory?
If we use MR to render, I think every machine is working on the same image (scanline?). So I believe MR sends only operations to the satellites and get back the result, isn't it? No need for the slaves to load the whole scene => no need to have a lot of ram....

Mayarender: There I think every machine is rendering on one image. So I need some ram for every machine to get the whole scene in??

And another point: Does it make sense to connect the farm with a seperate hub/switch or not?

[Mainswitch to all computers and all slaves]

[Mainswitch to all computers] --> [switch for renderfarm] --> [slaves]
