View Full Version : Exploring Middle Earth - The One Ring - Marion

Hey all,

ok, I'll throw my hat in the ring for this one. I know it's late in the game :) but I worked two full time jobs until a few days ago and just didn't have the energy to think about this, heh...

So here's my premise and a quick'n'rough animatic:

My main focus is on portraying the change in the character when she finds the ring.

Premise: A messenger on his way to Gondor stumbles across the One Ring and is seduced by its power.

Script: A messenger runs up a flight of stairs past the one ring. She sees it out of the corner of his eye, stops, and walks over to investigate. She picks up the ring and examines it. She likes it very much, in fact so much that she becomes all paranoid - did someone see her pick it up? She draws her sword and looks around to make sure. There's no one around... but the people that sent her this way know she came by here. They have to be silenced. No one can know about this find. Sword drawn, she turns back to where she came from and crawls towards her first victims.

This is a rough first draft of the basic poses - it's an animated gif so the timing is not tuned.

Update: here is the scene roughly blocked. Still working out the timing. This is a playblast out of Maya, so there's no lighting.

I haven't been able to do much in the last five interfered (interviewed for two jobs, had to do an animation test for one of them, and got hired, yay ) :bounce:

but here's an update with improved timing:

hopefully I'll now have a little breathing space to work on this full steam.

another update. Starting to smooth out the animation now, and add detail, so please critique away :) I'm happy to hear any suggestions

Pretty good, but I found one strange thing. Where is the shadow of the torch? All I see is a circle shaped hand shadow on the wall where a torch should be. Something funny going on there with your light and the torch object not being connected.

Wow. that turned out really awesome. Obviously someone has already mentioned the torch shadow problem but the animation is very good.

poor guy's gonna have to walk back in the dark, left his torch. hehe..great job :)
