View Full Version : Eliminating scintillating effect

02 February 2003, 05:33 PM
Hello everyone. I am working on a desert scene. The floor of the desert is a giant flat plane with a crumple type material applied.

When I move the camera slowly over the desert plane the area near the horizon does this dancing, scintillating effect. It would look cool if it looked like a mirage effect, but now it looks like billions of angry bees buzzing on the horizon.

Does anyonw know how to avoid this? I was trying to use fog but it keeps occluding my background rotoscope image.

Any ideas?

I'd do a test without the crumple material, just to see if it still shows.

If not, I might try to use a gradient which would fade out the crumple when it got to a point too far away to be noticed. I imagine that there must be a point where the horizon would stop showing detail. You could even have it fade to a projection map of a tiling "sandy" image, if you're concerned about some detail still showing.
