View Full Version : Mental Ray and Opacity Map

11 November 2006, 05:52 AM
Hi, I was hoping someone could answer a question about Mental Ray. Within my scene I have volume lights setup in a circle and in the middle I have a plane with an opacity map. I can see other objects properly behind this plane, except for the volume lights. The areas where the volume light should be showing up behind the plane, it just shows up black. If I render with Default Scanline, everything works fine, but I need MR for other objects in my scene. So I'm guess it must be something I have to tweak in MR, but I'm not sure what that would be. Any ideas?

In the new arch&design-material you have a "cutout"-map that removes the model for the parts where its black. Maybe a solution for you?

Of you don't have max9, make sure you use raytraced shadows. Since other types might not work with vol-light + opacity.
