View Full Version : Vray light material shadow?

11 November 2006, 06:20 PM
I have a few lights in my scene as area lights w/ smooth surface shadows and they all look fine. but I am still getting hard edged shadows from some geometry that I believe is being cast by light being emitted from a VrayLightMtl. Is it possible that VrayLightMtl (first off) will cast shadows from its light, and if so is there a way to alter the shadow type/properties of this light?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think the vray light material can cast shadows. Do they?

would be nice to find out... i'm fairly sure after working with the scene a little more that the hard shadows were a result of having so parallel surfaces very close together - but it was a little distorted by the camera... the shadows didn't have very much distance to soften up.

either way - does VrayLightMtl just emit ambient light?

The light material does not create shadows. The darker areas are just recieving less light.
