View Full Version : Fluid Dynamics, Blend Shapes, Other?

Alright, I have a logo I'm working on. I need an animated sequence as follows:

- Starts with a tiny bead of "liquid-metal" at the center of the screen, and the liquid metal grows and spreads out to form the shape of a rectangle.

- Then, the "liquid-metal" seeps out the top and the bottom to form words.

For now, I would like to focus on the rectangle to begin with, and the words could come later, UNLESS the process requires both initially. The top word and the Rectangle are one piece (one mesh). The bottom word is seperate.

I would like the liquid-metal to feel like liquid Mercury moving across a flat surface to form the rectangular shape. SO, I would like to hear from you guys about how I should go about doing this. Obviously, XSI is my pipeline.

If you would recommend fluid dynamics, please instruct me on how to do that. I have played with it, but I could not come up with any pleasing results.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

sounds like a job for realflow and xsi.Have a look at their demoreel
In realflow you generate your fluids and export a mesh to xsi, and shade it the way you want.

Could also have a look at the metaballs plugin from

Its pretty flexible and controllable directly inside xsi - maybe a combo of that plus shapes towards the end, could even use booltrace to deal with the letters appearing, which would give you that nice sharp edge look -

hope this helps

Tried this booletrace-shader,doesn't work here (5.11). Tried one of the example scenes, and built a new one , following the instructions. But when I draw a render-region, only black???!!!
