Hi, i start wich the concept of EON logo concept

11-16-2006, 09:24 AM
I like it....the surface of logo make me thing to the metal/nikel surface of the asteroid.

11-17-2006, 08:09 AM
OZ, this is the idea. Besides, issuing is matched much in the logo efficaciously with the inscriptions of the trailer. The inter-other, already i will work with team on the trailer. The two new members will be showed up to few days.

11-17-2006, 12:39 PM
Will be your logo animated? looks cool to animate...

WOW! very movie like! your render and animation are impressive! cool cool effect.
I like it a lot!

11-17-2006, 07:23 PM
I did not imagine it was that cool when I saw the static image! Very nice! There is just a small correction: It is not 'based to', but 'based on'.

11-17-2006, 08:17 PM
Thank for the english correction. :) Tongue the language has been always a low point for my. So... animation of the will be much close to this, but there are further different glow end lighting effects and possibly more metallic expectation.

11-19-2006, 04:14 PM
Hello, everybody, I am Ludmil Lazarov and I am the Director of the Mihail Popov's team. I will be responsable for the shooting stuff in the trailer and I will be the music composer too - using "REASON 3" music software. Because of the rule for low resolution trailer we won't shoot with 35mm film, we will shoot with HDV, DVCPro or a little Mini DV 3CCD camera. We will consider that later and let you know. Good luck everybody!

11-19-2006, 06:44 PM
The team will reach about 15 people if we count the actors.

11-20-2006, 12:37 AM
I like the concept of the logo animation, but I'd like to see more motion on the rings at first and the then a longer slowdown. Like they could be spining on diffrent axis (as now I think) but do more rotations. Not sure if that's clear enough, so I just hope u get the idea.

Otherwise good luck with the project and have fun!

11-28-2006, 11:11 PM
Wow! Great animation. If the rest of your trailer follows suit, it's definitely going to be high quality. Keep it up!

Hey, thanks for sharing some behind the scenes photos. Looks like you had success. I think yours is the only project I've seen so far here using live actors, and I'm very curious to see it all put together. Are those last three images actual footage? Looking good!

12-13-2006, 02:54 PM
No, last three images are directly capture meterial. Without color correction.

12-13-2006, 03:09 PM
Wow! Impressive! :) How many locations will you use?

12-14-2006, 11:44 AM
We are starting the editing today - perhaps with Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5
We used 4 locations wich are not CGI, the rest will be placed where the blue box is.

I am very surprised there are no more teams with Live Shooting, I mean the contest is for "MOVIE TRAILER" and all of the teams wich make animated people will have a problem. The animated persons doesn't look real - even in the big movies. That's why the moviemaking people shoot the stuff - if you are looking for work with CGI effects for movies, you will have to shoot sometime with movie team and this is the best oportunity. I am really shocked about that.

12-14-2006, 11:58 AM
Don't bother) even in animated short storytelling and editing skills can be demonstrated very well. vice versa real actors and combining bluescreen and clear shoot can produce much more problems for visual impression and perception integrity. :)

12-14-2006, 12:22 PM
If that was true, you can never see "Armageddon", "Star Wars", "The Island" and so on....... I am talking about movie like - when it's animated it has ANIMATION LIKE and thats the true - here we are talking about movielike and that is the cool of the contest!

12-14-2006, 12:49 PM
I think that the real humans make the trailer more realistic. If we talk on the CGI humans that will be only for background, the CGI humans are ideal then. But for precisely made a CGI human and his animation (and render ! ), that will fulfill major part, then are necessary much things for which now there isn't a time.

12-14-2006, 01:01 PM
That's what I mean. By the way, the humans maded for this contest are good, they are maded with very much of profesional work. They are awesome!

12-14-2006, 01:16 PM
to shearerludmil: MMMH..about me...the problem i had with live actors for eon was that 1) it was almost impossible to have a professionale looking recitation for a near zero budget project.
2)Live shooting means accurate lighting...so i needed a studio to place the light in the very same way i got in 3d scenes...and again it taken too much costs.3)The freedom of moving camera and the general problem with 3d/live footage integration was too long in terms of time.
(forgive my english pleaze  ).
So,i was forced to makes 3d humans...veeery hard to do!

12-15-2006, 07:54 AM
I have to agree with oz. We were going to shoot live footage of patricia (bluescreen), but we needed to make a cgi double as well for some shots. But we dropped the live action due to budget and schedule reasons. The biggest influence on the decision though, was that the emphasis of this competition as stated in the instructions is how good your idea is and how well you can convey your idea to the audience. This could be as simple as timecoded storyboard with audio track, if the idea is conveyed through it well enough for the audience. So as much as we wanted to shoot live footage, we made the decision to fully concentrate on the integrity of the whole trailer and make it as coherent as possible to convey our idea through it.

And about the "cinematic" factor. I think the cinematic feel of something you see is more in the way the camera is used and the way that the piece is cut, rather than just shooting something that is "real". I mean that shooting live footage with a home camcorder of a dog playing may not be as "cinematic" as shooting virtual footage of cg character with a carefully planned virtual camera on a virtual stage. I think that this is often understudied and understood that to get more cinematic feel in cg animation is to think where the camera could and would be placed if it was shot in real life. Also different lense choises and f-stops play a major role. All in all, I think one can make something cinematic even though it is not "real". :)

12-15-2006, 03:03 PM
Very very interesting, i'm gonna looking in your thread in future, there is really so much problems with a live action, composing and MONEY

Just interesting how you do all this and what you get in the end, so keep us informed.

Yes yes.. money money.. it's always problem, but there is a lot things you can by yourself.
As a big studio for a blue box.. actually you can use not a big room for it but it will be a little hard to make shoots there.

And what about UV lighting, does anyone use it ?

At this point of the discussion about character made in 3d or live actors...im very curious to see the integration between your splendid looking cg and live footage...one thing is sure till now...you are about to make a very professional work.

We don't have a lot of time, but we hope we will finish the project. There are four CG Scenes and another four combined video/CG scenes left, then the animation of the text and the behind voice recording. The pitty is that we are doing this in the middle of the night and during the day we don't have any time because we have to go to work, but I guess the most of you have the same problem.
Whatever, I wish you luck in the new 2007 year!

This is an unfinished version of the trailer. It's now 91 seconds, but when we finish it will be 90 seconds. We could finish on time but after the deadline has changed we decided to make the things better.
The posted version need some music, sound effects, wich we will do in the next days on REASON 3, and it needs some CG work, wich will be to the last night.
We apologize for the broken English, but we are all Bulgarians and it's hard to find someone who talks perfect english. I hope you will like it. Enjoy the day!(if you slept last night)

He he...this is really good.Reminds me of the dynamism in the new Harry Potter trailer.

01-15-2007, 04:44 AM
Very impressive! I thought the music and overall pacing were spot on, and it's a great blending of live action and CG. Also I thought your actors did a great job with the dialogue -- I had no trouble understanding them. So thumbs up to the Bulgarian team!

Question: how do you like Reason 3? Is it fairly versatile software for composing with? Just curious.

01-15-2007, 10:25 AM
Wow ! dynamism of sequences, crescendo of actions, music ... my god all are in this one !

I do not understand Your question...

01-15-2007, 12:51 PM
No problem. I'll reword it and try again. :)

You mentioned you are using a program called "REASON 3" for your music. I was curious about how well you like it. Is it easy to use? Does it have good samples? Are there a wide range of instruments? I don't have any software for actually composing music in (beyond using loops) so I'm curious about what programs other people are using.

01-16-2007, 10:51 AM
I teached myself working REASON 3 for about a two weeks. It has a lot of samples but I use them rarely. There are FACTORY SOUND BANK and ORCHESTER SOUND BANK wich have a wide range of instruments. Almost every instrument in the world. It is easy to use but you must know the notes and be a musician to make some good music. If you are not a musician you can make only some DISKO, HIP-HOP, DANCE, HOUSE and so on. The software is 3 CDs without the plugins. I hope I helped.

01-16-2007, 04:20 PM
Well done fellow countrymen, keep up the good work.
The scene with the climbing spaceship is my favourite.

Hey, thanks for the information on REASON 3. I do have some music background, I just don't have any software in which to compose stuff. It's on my list of things left to acquire, so it's good to hear about what packages are out there and what people think about them.

01-26-2007, 11:41 PM
Hey this is surely one of the best shots we've seen in this challenge! As Fifty3Dragons We're also wondering if the hangar is a model or a matte paint... Anyway is totally photoreal !!!

01-27-2007, 12:48 AM
Yeah- lets see your reference too! I'd say this was a model- but could be a vamped up photo....hmmm...

This is a screenshot. It took me a couple of nights to create the composition of the shot, the lighting and the details - it's all 3D. I'm happy to see you like it.

WOW Bethoven! That 3D landing scene is amazing! Again the look is incredible! The other shot we REALLY love in your trailer is the one of the shuttle leaving the atmosphere: that also is amazingly real, but not only, it has cinema quality for sure. Can't wait to see your piece finished! Keep up!

Patricia's kidnap scene

01-29-2007, 04:31 AM
Wow- that meuzeik is awesome! Patricias kidnap scene is really cool. Hey, can I be the producer? (Just one question...) Gotta love those spikes on a spaceship! THAT is storytelling quality! Done with the realistic polish! Boot to the HEAD! Congratulations and keep pushing the envelope! Good things will come your way!

01-29-2007, 07:08 AM
....OH MY GOD!!!

01-29-2007, 08:41 AM
Thank you people! I realy happy that you like the scenes.
Only two nights stay in the finish line...

01-29-2007, 10:28 AM
great work so far.. cant wait to see it in motion

01-29-2007, 02:09 PM
I remember that shot of the actress from the early verion of the trailer and I was wondering what environment she would be in. Now I know. :) Beautiful shot. The ship looks great. This is another of the entries that I think gets top marks for professionalism. This is a high quailty production. I'm very much looking forward to your final submission.

This video is full with deleted live scenes, wich you won't see in the final trailer. :) If we have to make normal Theatrical Trailer we can fill the whole 2:30 minutes :).
We want to make you smile with this video and to make you forget for 2 minutes about the nights without sleeping. We hope you will enjoy it!

lol:D very funny!

01-29-2007, 10:24 PM
So, after a quick look on the remaining CG scenes, I am glad to tell you that there are only 3 scenes from the storybord wich we will not finish.
You will not see the sixth hole, the russian platoon falling from the sky over asteroid towns and the russian ships heading to the Stone. Whatever there are three new scenes wich Bethoven made. I must say he did a wonderful job, may be the best CG in Bulgaria. Beside that - he plays Lanier, because the main actor get sick when we shooted.
We will post the trailer next night or the morning after it. Good luck everybody!

01-30-2007, 07:22 PM
Hilarious!! Thanks so much for sharing that little insight into your experience. Looks like your crew had a lot of fun working on this project. That's the best way to work, in my opinion. The actors did a wonderful job. I anxiously await your final version.

The Trailer is coming after a few hours, we are waiting some renders, we love the tension of the night.

So, this is our final "EON" trailer. We want to thank everybody on this forum, who watched our work. It's our first experience with so much CG work (I am 25, my friend Ludmil is 20 years old). We are so happy that some of you actually liked some of our posted videos and music. We hope you will like the trailer. Our parents did like it :), but when the strangers like it, it's a flame, it's a fire which makes you to do more and more.
Good luck everybody! Now we are going to sleep and believe me we will sleep MUCH!

We really enjoyed the time spended in this contest! I want to thank you all for watching our work. We are dreaming that all the people in this forum, including us, will make movies some day and to experience the shiver of making it!
It's a reason to laugh, it's a reason to be happy, it's a reason to cry, but it is defiantly a Reason to live!

Good luck everybody!

01-31-2007, 11:33 PM
Wow, right down to the last minute!!! :applause:

Fantastic job! It was already looking good when you posted the earlier milestone, but your added footage and final polish made it just that much better. This is an impressive trailer, a very nice blend of live action and CG elements (and great soundtrack too). I think your team has a very bright future ahead of you (I was doubly impressed when you mentioned how young you were--not that I'm old or anything :scream: ).

A very fine entry indeed. You deserve your sleep. Best of luck in the judging, and in your future work!

01-31-2007, 11:57 PM
A very cool job! congrats and good luck to all of you!

02-01-2007, 12:09 AM

best of luck mate! may the force be with you

02-01-2007, 12:35 AM
Yes, a very good trailer. I was thinking of ending mine with the piramids too, but as I am the only person on my entry, I guess I could't do everything...

02-01-2007, 10:27 AM
What can I say, very good job indeed ! Good luck to second place

02-01-2007, 11:53 AM
...second place... it will be honour!

02-01-2007, 12:44 PM
Guys you have made such a great work here! There are shots in this trailer that we really think are the best in this challenge. Your CGI is amazing.
Good luck with all of your things.

Ciao

ThE-ShiFT team

02-01-2007, 01:28 PM
Thaks! I realy like your post :) Make me happy :)

What do I tell....

Our team is compound by two peoples. Me and shearerludmil. I make all CG work on this trailer... So that you alone on this challenge doesn't mean that you cannot do fine. It means that you will not sleep, but this is other subject... :)

02-01-2007, 04:15 PM
Yes..i agree with ThE-ShiFT ! The shuttle scenes are amazing....very very movie like!

02-02-2007, 11:06 PM
Thank you for your words people!

02-03-2007, 05:50 PM
Wow, just perfect, really professional work, it's just incredible.
I think you'll bу шт 1-2 places of winners.
Good work team, i think in future you'll make great things.

Good luck !!!

02-07-2007, 10:25 PM
The good work deserve good price. The FIRST PLACE !!! Good Luck

02-08-2007, 09:04 AM
I too think its a winner. I do have 2 problems with it though. The biggest issue would be that the accents of the actors are too thick. Its hard to make out what they are saying, I had to watch it a few times and listen. And the other problem was that there are a few timing issues that remind me im watching a competition trailor instead of the real deal.

awesome cgi and look in the end.

02-13-2007, 10:55 PM
I knew it! I knew it! :deal: The accents were too rough on my opinion too. Anyways thanks for the kind words of yours :) I'm proud to be part of the actor crew  (I'm the hairy one with the fancy "no" and the big gun :D rotflol ).

03-22-2007, 07:33 AM

You guys did an amazing job! I was just recently going back to watch it again and I noticed the Flash video link seems to be down, I'm not sure whether you're hosting it or CGSociety is, but it might be something to check into.
