View Full Version : Lighting a object in AE:Post production

In CgSociety feature of Pendulum workflow in their dinosaur project.

They used an unnamed Maya plugin to export a normal map so they go post light an object using After Effect's 3D layer lights.

Has anyone done this or could clarify exactly what they did?

I think I did it once using the DFX+ updgrade that came with LW8. It has a '3d tools' module which contains a shader for manipulating the lighting and normals. I forget which format I needed to render out to, but you might be able to search for info on that and perhaps get clues to do it in AE. I'll try and post more when I get to my PC with DFX + LW.

if you do a search in this forum and the after effects forum I did some tests with a plugin that allows you to do that.
