I was unsure where to ask this. But since I have used Vue I thought maybe I'd ask here.

I have seen some fabulous stuff done with Bryce, In your opinions which is the better choice for landscapes and waterscapes?

I am having trouble making a convincing underwater scene in Vue this is what leads me to explore other frontiers.

You might browse through Cermit's gallery ( over at Renderosity; he does superb underwater scenes.

You can get a upgrade to Bryce 6 for only $6 at DAZ3d. What version of Vue are you using? Comparing the two programs, Bryce and Vue Easel are about at the same level. I like Vue's interface better even though I cut my 3D teeth on Bryce.

What type of problems are you having with the underwater scene? Might be a good thread if we can all chip in some ideas.

Here is the thing. I have vue 5 infinite, and I purchased AsileFx's underwater tutorial. The thing is I am trying to get uber-realistic/photo real renders and it is just not happening with Vue. I have learned tons during this week of grueling trial and error. But project deadlines are leading me down another path. I need the whole thing, animated waves, caustics, and light beams. Dont need any other models in the shot, just a underwater sequence with the camera pointing to the surface. I am getting close but not quite there. And the sequence needs to be loopable (seamles loop).

I know it is more than likely my inexperience, but I am trying to work through it. Just seems Vue is fighting me

Another resource you may want to look at is Moonsoon's eco materials available at ( (store item). They work really well and he includes scenes with atmosphere settings and light rays (including some that won't kill your render times).

One of the big parts of getting a real looking underwater scene is adding soft shadows and blur - both of these increase render times, so for animations, it may be a balance problem of how real it looks versus render times that make a project impossible...
