Your goal is to model and texture something powered by steam. It can be anything you want. Just keep in mind that it has to be powered be steam. here's a couple of examples. a steam powered mech (, a steam powered dog walker (, something ( , steam-walker ( .

The limits:
4x512x512 texture this includes diffuse, normal, spec, etc...
2500 triangles.

Starts now : Monday 16th of October
End date: Monday 23th of October at 11:00 PM CET

just kidding...anywho, this topic reminds me of Steamboy, which is an awesome movie. Maybe I'll make something inpired by that. We'll see...I gotta get over this cold before I feel like doing much.

For anyone taking part in this, you may find this article very helpful:

It is about designing steampunk machines, and things that are steam powered. It goes over the components of a steam engine, with great reference images and diagrams.

I guess I'm gonna be the weird one who does something practical.

Of course, don't expect this rigged an animated. PaleRaven06 said he might do it but me? I'm just modeling this thing. So, in theory, it works but theory is a fickle bitch.

OK.. here I thought I was being really original when I decided to do a Steampunk Mega Man and lo, it was already done on (and I know at least a few of you visit there and may have participated).. BUT, it wasn't 3d..

Anyhow, I'm an unoriginal bastard I guess, but I'm going for it anyway.. I may not finish as I'm just now starting, but at the very least you'll see my concept artwork when I'm able to get home and scan it.

Intresting theme, I might have to jump into this one, even though I only have like 3 days left.

Here's a really rough concept and there's already some changes that I'm wanting (mainly in the cock pit design) but this kinda shows what I'm going after. It's the called the "Desert Moose" ...or something (

my own concept :P .. idea was injured cat and steampunk accessory to help it move around.

well, here is my steambot

just 1x512 defuse map applied,

btw, can someone show me how to apply the spec map correctly in a directX or opengl shader tree in xsi ? :/ i just dont get it right

If'n I get a couple extra days, all I need is a texture. If not, I can post what I did. It's all got UVs laid out and everything. Hell, I can prolly get the texture done (albeit haphazardly) tonight

Well, I got sick and wasn't able to finish. I'll upload my sketch and the little progress I was able to make when I get home. Hopefully I'll still get around to finishing this as I'm having a lot of fun with it!

Blacker, that is a really cool character, I hope you finish it some time. Pauler yours is rad too. tturunen what have you done to that poor cat!?

I wanted to do something for this one, I just couldnt come up with anything that really lit my fire.

blacker : really nice concept. too bad time's up...

yoyomon : interesting looking concept.

Pauler : really nice looking steambot. the model and texturing looks really solid.

tturunen : interesting concept, I like it. The model and texturing looks good.

And the winner is . . . tturunen and the steam cat! Congratualtions! It was a though call, so well done everybody.
