Nanashi/Sanfuye is an ongoing animation project by Little Black Dot Studios. Edward the Robot and Nanashi are main characters in this sci-fi story aimed at the 15-35 demo. The series is currently in development, although style animations were shown to various networks and producers at this year's Ottawa International Animation festival with much interest. Nanashi is a princess who suddenly finds herself in the unfamiliar city of The 3rd, where she finds a job at Edward's bar. We are aiming for a 2D styled 3D render, incorporating many of the LBD team's favourite styles with a comic book feel to the storytelling.
For the style short:
Animation Director: Harry Ravelomanantsoa
Art Design, Animation, Compositing: Marco Curado
Character Design, Texture, Animation: Rhoda Rutherford
Background Painting, Environment Design: Paul Loubser
Rigging, Animation: Brandon Vermeulen
Series Creator: Dominique Werth
Software used: Maya for modelling and animation, painting done in Photoshop, compositing in After Effects and Motion

Hello fellow Jo'burg animator!

Thanx 4 your post. Yes it is indeed a work in progress. We are working on the full 5 min short at the moment and this is only a fraction of it. This IS what we showed in Ottawa, together with a full series' bible, character boards and episode synopsis. Its interesting cause, when you try to sell something, they don't really care whether you've got an animated example or not!
But stay tuned on our blog if you interested and you'll see all the developments there incl. other stuff that we do.
What's up at the Refinery @ the mo?
