View Full Version : lowest polycount for a character?

There's a thread, ever popular, about the different polycounts for characters in video games. But most of you guys probably do LODs that force you to come up with hard to find solutions. Like: How do you skin a guy that already looks like origami? How do you preserve shape and look at less than 100 triangles?

And there is always super low-poly characters lurking around, in some games, like pedestrians that you barely see in a racing title.

And maybe some of you guys were already in the business at the begining of 3d gaming. How did you work back then to give some life to a couple of blocks that were supposed to forme a space marine?

So there, I repeat my questions from the title: What was the lowest polycount you ever had to work with? How low can you go?

lowest poly count = 1 poly, a flat triangle, textured with an alpha cutting out it's shape.
