Hi everyone.
First post here.
This challenge is HUGE,in any sense, upon all the trailer one in my opinion, but maybe less difficult that the illustration one.
Yes...because putting all the stuff on EON in a picture is very hard.....and so....becuse im a masochist and self destuctive ^_^ i have decided to put in the trailer,ALSO the poster of the ipotetic movie.Ummmh....for the first time from two years till now, I have time (better to say that Im hoping it) enought to complete a challenge......anyway...i hope to post interesting stuff for everyone, and that this place will be a funny one.seeya....(forget my english please)

10 October 2006, 10:46 AM (

Just a first view of thwe asteroid near the earth......this will be the movie poster too.

10 October 2006, 11:08 AM

Many many luck to you!

10 October 2006, 11:17 AM
to Maxko: Hey tnx! :) Well....yes...very busy but extremely exciting!I find in this challenge a real push to incrase (or try to do it) my special fx skills.
Did you join the challenge?

10 October 2006, 05:03 PM
Good luck in the challenge. I think it will certainly be intresting to see what is created for the trailer. =)

10 October 2006, 11:18 PM
OZ: :) I cant wait for your "new power" with new skills. Do you have some interesting skills with fx? I remember your skills in BoB challenge.. especialy your speed.. haha :)
Regarding my entry to this challenge, I cant join because I'm busy.. but I'll be watching your thread.

10 October 2006, 11:18 AM
to Darksuit: OH tnx! I think the same too. The way to face a work as a trailer is,make this challenge very interesting. There are a lot of new things to be considered in a trailer.....brand new way of working.....and different weights to be distributed between this and that factor....i much time have to stay on screen the titles....if the narrating voice have to be male or famale...and so on.

to Maxko: WOHAAA! the BOB challenge!!! ^_^ it was one of my favourite!!! geeee..hem...gosh! not so skilled in professional special i take this challenge as a chance to " up" (argh! sorry for my horrible hardcore gamer slang!). you said...maybe my best skill is the speed...I hope is enought to complete this Super dooper challenge! It's a sin that you have no time to run! ( serious when i say that your avatar is one of my favourite! i can only imagine how cool can be an alien done by you for this project!!!)...anyway...hope you found something amusing here around.

10 October 2006, 02:44 PM
Good luck with the trailer challenge and the illustration too. Yes, it will be interesting to see the different ideas needed to produce the trailer to attract people to watch the film. It should be fun! Hope we all have enough time to do everything. :bounce:

10 October 2006, 03:13 PM
I'm glad to see that someone else is as sadistic as I am. Lol. Gee you pushed that poster out pretty fast so I'm guessing you'll get through this challenge if only due to exceptional speed. Looking forward to seeing some more stuff.

10 October 2006, 02:16 AM
OZ: haha :) yeah BoB challenge is one of my favourite also! I have some pretty long rest this summer from work and I need working right now.. (its 4:15 am and im still working.. bleeeh..) so, for that I cannot run with ya in this challenge.. btw, im in game industry, what about you, you gamer slanger :D? And I really glad that you like my avatar haha :) of course, your avatar is for ever in my mind and also your bloody hell speed :D

Which softwares do you plan to use?

10 October 2006, 07:44 PM (

a 3d concept about the 4th chamber

10 October 2006, 08:09 PM
to Claireabella: GEEEE! looks to be an hard challenge from start till the end! in italy, for example, the book is very very very very and i have to add.....VERY,hard to find.So...i got to plan the development of the trailer in an unusual manner, choosing what i cant stat to work on without knowing the entire story and what i cant. Very interesting anyway.So....good luck to you too! i are in trailer too!

to Tenacious:TNX Tenacious!!! he he he he ......hope both us survive to this breaking experience!! cant wait to see some stuff from your thread!....mmmh..i got a bit of free time...i will surf on your pages earlier tonight.

to Maxko: 4.15???? AM??? OOOH MY FRIEND!!! so im not the only lone wolf working by night! and in italy is FULL MOON too! a tired guy, keep patience please.well, you are on game dev? also! in my career i done several games, but not a lot i left a bit that kind of work,or better...i work less for games a more about science visualization and historical/art interesting...but making games and fx is my favourite field of application. Can you tell me about what game you are working on?
software.......mmmm.......difficult to say at this point of on storyboards now and pre-visualization, but probably i will use max, photoshop, premiere and after effect.
sound forge and....mmmh..thinking. I have different licences (EXPENSIVEEEE!!!gosh) but not enught i need to develope a professional looking i have to do my best with what i got.Seeya!

(forget my english! lol)

10 October 2006, 09:54 PM
Good luck Fabio!...i will keep an eye on your progress...have fun friend! :)

10 October 2006, 10:24 PM

hehe, rock em all mate!:beer::buttrock:

10 October 2006, 06:41 AM
This is quite the undertaking the movie trailer. I noticed not a lot of people are doing this part of the challenge. I wish you luck I'm sure yours will be a great entry. Some guys at work are also talking about entering to do the trailer, I dunno sounds tempting, maybe I'll join them and be arround this part more often, we'll see. fun! I like your terrain a wile back (displacement?).

10 October 2006, 01:14 PM
to Tenacious: I SEE! GREAT STUFF!

to crazybread: Yes...less people on is potentil a mass doing this! I joined the trailer just because i need to improve some skills on animation and it was natural to me tryng this. The terrain is hand modeled on a polygonal surface, and then texellated.done with max rs6.
tnx 4 your encouragment and see you soon!

10 October 2006, 01:41 PM (

Because i have not yet found the book,i got to begin from things not too murch related to the sory. For example the title "eon" and the subtitles.

10 October 2006, 02:41 PM (

Im now working on an animated title.I aim to create a sort of "infinite effect" for any text in the trailer.
The infinite fx is a visual version of the concept of infinity in axis city.

10 October 2006, 03:04 PM (

with background....

10 October 2006, 04:34 PM

Just wanted to stop by and say that what i've seen of your stuff is really great looking!
I like your poster ideas, they're really cool looking!
good luck!

10 October 2006, 12:09 AM
hey I like the new stuff. Very dynamic.

10 October 2006, 12:27 PM (

Concept of eon space shuttle. enjoy

10 October 2006, 08:49 AM (

Yesterday I started modeling the Orbital Mini the night (gosh) i tested the 3d space set and some quick animation to try camera fx and lighting.

10 October 2006, 09:58 AM
Looks great I like it.

10 October 2006, 03:30 PM
Looks real, though I hadn't chance to see something on orbit enough close. How'd you got that noise (middle pic)?

10 October 2006, 01:09 PM
TO cgnemo42:WOW! tnx! I hope to do a good job...and im encouraged by your comments! tnx again!

to Tenacious :Tnx! ummh...looks pretty but in animation does not work as i
Im happy you like it! ^_^ your challenge is going to be great,so your comments are very welcomes!

to riki: tnx TNX tnx! i need it!

to kivi :NNAAAAA too kind! heh...blush!!! ok this challenge photorealism is a must for me.In not so skilled in photorealistic renderings so i have to work a lot on render. scenes are not to hard to do.I took a look to nasa websites and I have watched many space relate movies to choose the photograpy of the trailer (so the level film grain)
my favourite are (in visual terms): space cowboys,armageddon,2001 space odissey a second choice are :star wars new trilogy,AI,Lost in space, the fifth element and some more....
I obtained the noise using the film grain post filter of 3dsmax.Nothing more.
The final scene will have a more dusty look, with particle sistems on engines, sparks, asteroid small pieces, and space dust.

10 October 2006, 01:54 PM (

Some view of the space station 3d concept.

10 October 2006, 02:20 PM (

A pre visualization illustration.
another time to understand how about the trailer look.

10 October 2006, 03:21 PM
Very nice look. I like the lights. The green in the boost of the shuttle is very cool.
Waiting to see it animated.

10 October 2006, 07:29 PM
Ah, my compliments here too! Your work already live. Gonna watch this thread

10 October 2006, 11:43 PM
Hey neighbour. Looking good. Really like the shuttle design. You seem to be doing some really cool work here. keep it up.

10 October 2006, 08:19 PM
i really love the fourth chamber concept. looks great ;)

10 October 2006, 10:21 AM (

some storyboard strip. The text for it is not yet written.
Anyway this is a good test to understand if the "movie" flow is clear. This is the first part of the trailer,i have read the book i have to work on "general" scenes.Anyway im satisfied by the first trailer script, that is divided in three distinct areas. The division works in different ways. The first, work as an introduction, where we take a look about nowdays...(forgive my spaghetti english please!)

10 October 2006, 11:07 AM (

10 October 2006, 11:10 AM (

10 October 2006, 11:18 AM
nice, short............aaaaaannnnnnddddd really good.

10 October 2006, 12:52 PM (

so,here the first part... the world life is calm...but.. some thing is and radio trasmission are going off...radiotelescopes receive signals from various places in the orbital satellite is obscured by a giant object....silence..a young guy look at the sky..and see it! the "rock" is there....End of the "intro" part.

10 October 2006, 01:11 PM
to machichi:TNX 4 all your kind kommentz!:) a lot of scenes are already animated (a lot of it unseen here in the thread).
Soon i will post links to my ftp where you will find animated test, more concepts, and so on.

to Oweron:TNX A LOT! I hope you will find this thread funny as I hope it may be!...:D

to Tenacious: OW TNX! :scream: !! heeee...i think it will be Veeeeeery hard to do the job! Yesterday i took a look of hte storyboard...and i realize how much material is needed to complete the trailer...!!!GOSH!!! crazy!doing this is crazy!

to mitchelhunt: AH! the 4° chamber!!! one of my favourite! It is still under design...what i have posted is a technical experiment on the three distribution system. The final scene, seem to be huge, done by intricate plants and unusual shaped rocksthank....i hope to post it this week. 4 you comment!!! i NEED IT! :bounce:

10 October 2006, 01:39 PM
Very cool, love the size of the stone compared to the guy.

10 October 2006, 02:20 PM
Very very nice storyboards OZ... great work and good luck with the challenge...

10 October 2006, 03:08 PM
Now, here is something what looks HUGE! Man, lot of work infront of us, lot of work... he he he.
Seriously, I like your story. Nicely dramatic.

10 October 2006, 11:22 PM
i like the strip 1_2 best. those giant satellites always get to me :D

10 October 2006, 02:17 PM (

Here the beginning of Paricia 3d model.

10 October 2006, 02:20 PM (

And a light texture composite test.
Im now working on two separate front.
The 4th chamber and Patricia...maybe the hardest things to render in the trailer.

10 October 2006, 02:40 PM
that looks awesome. realy got. wish I were so good in char modeling as U are.
ok my main point is definitly not on the characters. but really great work so far.

the cap that she's wearing is nice also.

10 October 2006, 03:23 PM
Omg, i've missed this one too shame on me ! i'm not much in trailer section :banghead:
You seems to have a good advance project with some goods 3d models ! wish you good luck for the rest, and come back later to see your works

10 October 2006, 04:06 PM
to Tenacious: Thank you man! mh...i consider the scene of the guy very important in the is the true first visual contact with the stone! and...a way to make the spectator feeling into the story.all the introduction try to look at the events as form a "nowdays" point of view.Hope to goal in it! (jeesh! what spaghetti english!!!)

to icedeyes: Im happy you like it! I hope the story is understandable too...:)

to Oweron: ARGH! you hit the point!...maybe we got toooo much work to do!!! yesterday i had to work till 4.50 AM!! i'll die!

to mitchelhunt:TNX to been here and giving your opinion! I ever need to know if im on the right way or not!!!:bounce:

to machichi:TNX a lot!! so you find patricia ok?? OH gosh!!! warned by modelling her!

to SweD:tnx a lot man! you got a superthread to push forward!!! i saw it!great stuff!!
cant imagine you in the trailer too! it may be supercool!

10 October 2006, 04:44 PM
Models are looking great. I especially like the pic of the shuttle approaching the space station. How many people do you figure you'll be modelling for your trailer? And do you model something generic and then modify it to fit each character, or do you create a separate model for each person? Just curious. Looks nice.

10 October 2006, 08:06 PM
Ive checked out all your work so far and I am very impressed I think it is looking all very solid. To be more specific - the modelling of the shuttle and and space station is very convincing and ties in very closely from what i have read in the book. Also I am really liking the render you have done of Patricia - the modelling is great, and the attention to detail such as the astronaut costume and lighting from the monitor is really sets the mood very nicely. I am really looking forward to how the story will unfold in your trailer. Best wishes and keep the good work up.

10 October 2006, 11:32 AM
she looks simply beautiful OZ... could you please explain how you achieved this great skin shader?

10 October 2006, 04:05 PM (

10 October 2006, 08:06 PM
nice detail on the rocket. cant wait to see more from you :D

10 October 2006, 04:54 AM
Hey Fabio,

wow, already an impressive amount of solid work in your thread! A really good storyboard and I enjoy your sketches as much as your modeling:thumbsup: ...the first renders of Patricia are already amazing and I'm definitely curious to follow the progress of your work now:) !

10 October 2006, 11:14 AM (

Here's the new version of the russian rocket.
This scene take place during the second part of thw trailer, and is a scene that describe the launch of a russian rocket, that,i want not specify if is a nuke weapon or not.It must only show that the russians are involved in the space affair.
The first attemp i posted yesterday was very was only to draw the general lines of this shot that is very "common" to hollywood space movies,ad it has to be very similar to things seen before on big screen.
I took ispiartion form "apollo13" "armageddon" and "sky captain".
The aim of this scene is to give the trailer a "i seen before" taste...that is userfull to make people not impressed, but comfortable with the trailer language. It is a tried and tested trick.
To make this scene nicer to watch,i changed the colours mood and the background, giving different layers of clouds and atmosphere effects.
today i complete the rocket model.
Hope you will like it

10 October 2006, 11:27 AM

You seem to be very comfortable portraying diverse environments. You have a really good thing going and I wish you luck. :buttrock:

10 October 2006, 11:27 AM
That's really great work. One question I'm not a PRO that's 'caus I'm asking. How do U made the ground It's a picture or 3D? I know Nweebee question ;-)

But reaaly CINEMASCOPE!!!

10 October 2006, 01:31 PM
To fifty3dragons: HI!:wavey: ...well...mmh...Im still not sure how to proceed with characters.
Im still doing tests with photomorphing. I mean...taking a photo and mapping it on a poligonal shape. His tecnique gives me the opportunity to achieve a phtotrealistic look (easy with photos uh? ^_^) to the character.I got no money enought to buy a professional cam. and shoot real actors.So..i have to use some trick.
Will be more 3d character 4 sure...but still not sure how many. As you figured,I will use a "prototype" model to create some. (sorry for my uncorrect spaghetti english!)

to Subha: OW TNX!!! BIG ENCOURAGMENT!!!
AH! is funny what i read from you!!! yes because i never read the book! (seem i will have it next days...HOPE!)so... is a matter of luck that i gone so close to the book descriptions!
anyway i was inspired by the novel illustrator form 70/80 that is the period when the book was written, right? maybe the writer imagine the shifi in a certain way! FUNNY!
to icedeyes: oh! you are very kind to me!!! That shader is not so good! anyway yes...let me explain.
The shader is done specifically for this works well only eith it.
It is done in 3dmax r6. basically is a photografic projection on the 3d mesh.but i added extra lighting with a self illum map (falloff/fresnel) that give the skin a pale traslucent mood.
then i give the light in the scene the diffuse soft value around 80/100 to blend the lights.
only a backlight (the hard blue one) is with a contrast value of 65 that make the fece of patricia emerge form the background.AH! i use the photo for the patricia face to create a reflection and diffuse map too.

to mitchelhunt:TNX! now modelling mooore details on the rocket! hope you will like it!

to daWinky: Nice to see you here!Thank you for ur kind words! I will try to maintain the same level of care everywhere in the trailer!! seeya and thnx again!

to kingmango: HE HE HE HE ^_^ years of eperience in videogame industry makes miracle my friend!!! Tnx 4 ur support!

to machichi: no no! there are no Nweebee question here !:) CGI IS SO VAST! and there are
thousands way to do the same thing!
well...i have 3 plane of stuff in the scene. the firs is a semisphere where is mapped a photo taken from a very hi point of view (a peak in tuscany if i remember) and two planes of opacity map for clouds on two separate plane grids.
This tecnique works well when you have to make a scene from a very hight point of view.
if you like i will post a mini making off of this scene.

10 October 2006, 03:37 PM (

10 October 2006, 05:52 PM
Beautiful work! I like the lead you are taking in getting stuff made and out there!

pix :.

10 October 2006, 11:46 PM
Absolutely stunning. Beautiful shots. I'd love to see a mini-tutorial on how you put together that scene if you do get the time to put one together. I'm doing my trailer totally 2D, but I'm very interested in 3D stuff, and especially how to integrate the two.

I can see already that the standards are going to be high for the trailer challenge. :)

10 October 2006, 11:28 AM (

This stuff rocks!

10 October 2006, 08:04 PM

I was hesitating about joining this part of the challenge (making a trailer that is..) and thinking about how it would be cool to make some sort of drawn animatic but I have to admit that when I saw your work I was a little bit intimidated. Never tought anybody would go this far in detailing their work! Anyway, nice job and good luck

10 October 2006, 11:36 PM (

to PixelMinion:Tnx...Not easy sometimes...:D

to fifty3dragons:Blending 2d and 3d works great!! And is a very interesting field of experimentation.I agree with you about mixed media interest!
I will try to post a minitutor about the rocket launch.

10 October 2006, 03:41 PM
WOW! :bounce: Impressive stuff you have hear.

I would have never thought someone would have the time to put in so much detail into the trailer challenge. I hope you finish on time because I really want to see the finished product.

Looking forward to seeing the complete Patricia. Good luck.

Man.. you are real master, i think you'll make a read perfect looking trailer. Everything loks just perfect.

Good story board, i think you can make story real eye candy. So fast and so pretty looking models, you are working very fast.

A lot of scenes, objects and animation.. you have a lot of work to do but i think you can do it. Keep on working !!!

10 October 2006, 07:22 PM
Looking good man. I like how the model's coming along and the skin shader looks great. Nicely lighted, very cool effect.
More concepts and storyboards would be nice though.

10 October 2006, 07:49 PM
Geesh, Oz, you're leaving the rest of us behind :)

More good stuff. I note that a number of the concept and pre-vis stuff you've posted don't appear in your rough boards. Have you nailed down your shots yet, or are you more concentrating on modelling right now?

tankyou so much for the welcome , this is my first one post in this fabulous forum, and I am much happy for this.
fifty3dragons:For the land I have made a little test with “terragen” while much of the plants are modeled in 3dsmax, textured with procedural mapping for much of them and some bitmap for the foliage, and render with mental ray.
ah , please, forgotten my English , is much rusted:blush:,( google translete help me for this :))
I know that the great OZ will be absent for the next week , so i hope to to maintain alive this tread with some ather test

More good concept stuff. I like the detail on the satellite. Can't wait to see you model it. And speaking of models, that train is fantastic. I love the lighting. Is that straight from the render, or did you do some post work on it?

11 November 2006, 04:51 PM
to Jedi-Juice: Tnx for ur comments M8! very luky because in this particular period i have just closed a big project so i have not so much to do till jan.2007!!! :scream: yessss...

to fifty3dragons:I have to admit that i work on the trailer 18 hours per day and 7 days per week! geeee...
differently I could not achieve that level of detail..
About the discrepancy between concept and 3d models....well.I was done a lot of 2d and 3d pre vis material untill i read the book.So all the material was not presentend in a chronological correct succession. (god! i hope my english is correct!!!)
Now that i have read the novel im about to reconcept a part of the old stuff and redraw some storyboard tables. You will probably see a lot of new stuff in this week as the train by jimmydog...He have done a strong job and will animate a part of the train scene.the train model is near to be completed, but not the animation...anyway,soon,we will post the very first animated stuff.Tnx 4 ur posting! your support hepl us!

to Tenacious:OW TNX MAN! uuuuffff..there are a lot to do on patricia....still a lot to do.Im not happy about her face....and the firs rig tests give me not the response i hope.the procedural skin, slides on the model...ummmh...yes a lot to do.Tnx and compliment for your brilliant work!

to targus:TNX 4 UR encouragment Targus! now a bit scared about how much work i have to do.I want a "without compromise" trailer...and..i face now the first strong problems like the actors voices and the music.I need it to animate and final script is not done.Gosh! this week will be like dancing in the hell!

to Henrikl: Tnx man! yess i will post a lot of concept stuff...the "definitive" one! i mean,it will represents the things as it will appear in the final trailer...hem.. i hope so.

to madshooter:TNX MAD...Nice to see you here!

11 November 2006, 05:03 PM
To soapy:TNX SOAPY!!! and i hope do bring more good stuff (you are just too kind to us... )
Anyway...if we survive to this...sweet nightmare...ta da da daannnnnn...

to General Midi:AH! TNX! that scene i have taken a difficult decision...the stone is far more close to the planet than in the novel is... I dont like to change to much stuff...but it is a cool i decide to put ti inside...Hope people will like very dramatic...i love it!

to userBrian:Did you like patricia!? Happy to read it! Tnx and come back again!

to TheFirstAngel:GOSH! to say...TNX!

to Carlocki:TNX! If i will need i will ask!!! TA DAANNN!!!

11 November 2006, 10:58 PM
fifty3dragons: tnx a lot , i see your concept and is fantastic too. and....i'm in love for the Frant..... I do not see the hour that it realizes .

For the image the much work is the render but I have played in this image with photoshop with a little color correction and brighness/contrast , this help me to clear the idea for the effect to use in the final render.

i see much of the other Thread , i 've a 56k modem in my house so I must be much patient and mind zen when do that , but I never seen many great artists all together , i find a new world ,and i'm really really happy for that. so good rock to all:beer:

Great sketches, you are moving fast! The v/stol and the cityscape designs look good, very appropriate. I am looking forward to seeing them built and textured, I know they are going to look great after seeing that rocket.

11 November 2006, 12:26 PM (

here..some tests on the bibliotheque in thisledown city....I point to a minimalist architecture.
i will add some detalis more but the structure will remain, more or less, like it is,right to follow the novel suggestions about the whole style in chamber 3.

11 November 2006, 12:37 PM
Man....the previews are looking watching over this one.

11 November 2006, 01:00 PM

If you need architectural help you know to whom ask

fine works

11 November 2006, 04:16 PM
Only thing that I have to say is that the leafs on the plants looks a bit to large, but then again what do I know about plants inside a huge asteroid ... like the lightning.

eon trailer (

11 November 2006, 06:29 PM
Damn thats one big pot plant. LOL. Love the building. Don't worry you'll get the procedual texture working. Don't give up. That's the main thing. I have to ask did you model the building or paint it... I can't tell. either way it looks awesome.

11 November 2006, 05:23 PM
Hey Fabio,

don't know what to say about your stunning progress here, I'm a little spechless've done so much work and already have a lot of stuff together...and with this high level of detail:thumbsup: ! And everything is really looking great, no crits at all from me:applause: . Now I can only wish that you'll always have enough coffee to continue:D ...

11 November 2006, 01:46 PM

Hello OZ. Sorry for not posting the last time. I'm too busy either for this. I like the citysketch. It's similar to that, I have in mind. The bibliotheque is very cool too. Man where am I here. It's hard for me to hold the quality here but I will try my best. I wil post next renders soon (I hope ;-). The time is running and running and running.......

But anyway, your work is very inspirating for me thnx and really great.

11 November 2006, 12:19 AM
More great concept stuff. I like the shuttle and the city. The library leaves me speechless. I don't know how you guys manage to crank out such high quality work so quickly, but I'm envious. :) Great stuff.

11 November 2006, 12:38 AM
Nice poster--works for me!

11 November 2006, 07:33 AM
breathtaking progress. the preview of the library is just aweome! would be awesomeness to see a 120 min eon cgmovie anyways, this previews of yours wanna make me see it! keep on rocking mate, no crits, simply great work! rock on!:buttrock::wip:

11 November 2006, 09:26 AM
this is looking great, i love the look of the bibliotheca. your progress is stunning! looking forward for next update.

11 November 2006, 06:48 PM
Really great looking work.

11 November 2006, 11:08 AM (

new and semifinal version.

11 November 2006, 11:31 AM
to soapy:Im now just on city.there are a lot of details to model and i got little time.I put a lot of attention on city look.Making it futuristic but not unprobable.thnx a lot 4 ur words. It helps!

to Nazirull:Thak you! concepting is so funny! and i love the research and i have to give that drawings a 3d in trouble!!!

to carlocki: HEy wellcome back my friend! weel it is a mental ray rendering.Right now i have a machine on this scene to render the 4 sec will take an entire day,24 hours of rendering!Nice quality,BUT IT COST! if i will be too much in trouble with architecture I'll call you!Tnx!

to coolkonrad:ARGH! YES! you are right! a big misstake! you can see i have just resizad that!

to Tenacious:coolkonrad say the same about leafs...i have rebuild the pot and i got to add a little bit more plants on it...that space on the semisphere is a sort of minigarden..but it was oversized! fault.
The building is renderd, but i applied some textures that may give the "pauinted" effect.
I plan to make some digital matte, but in this case is full3d.Did it work well for you? I are doing a great job here so im very interested about your opinion.

to daWinky: HA HA HA HA HA just a couple of days ago i bought a lot of beer and coffee!
he he he ...every day i work about 14/16 hours on the i need a lot of beer and coffe.mmmmh..keeping the level of detail so hight makes me mad...but i want to close the trailer as i imagine it.It will be hard, but the entire project is well planned. The previds and premodel period is almost finished, and now im on various final stuff.Jimmydog gives me a big hand doing a lot of things...Tnx to be here Sabrina,it helps a lot!seeya!

11 November 2006, 11:52 AM
To machichi:I KNOW!!! man! never mind! we are all so busy! Is easy to have similar vision i think. We take ispiration from the very same novel. But im curious to se how the same thing may be developed form different people, didn't you?Putting quality is very hard... on a trailer is twice hard...a lot of work have to be done.Im lucky because right now i have no much work on other im almost all on the trailer.Tnx 4 ur post here and KEEP IT UP M8!!! run run run run run run!

to fifty3dragons:NAAAA TOO MUCH KIND! tnx tnx...hem  blush!!! in GREAT trouble with closing time!the detail is to hight and the render time too long.I got to cut something here and there.I hope to post the animatic this week.

to GregBear: TNX a lot mr Bear...Im working hard on trailer so the poster is a bit forgiven.Im not sure if i will be able to close with that.I plan to put Patricia running through a "conceptual" version of the road, where the geometric heaps are the wallpaper.Im very interested about the theory behind EON. so I have done some research to know more about it.The idea is to crate a poster that blend between the human aspect of the novel and
the scientific side of it.All done in 70'S illustration style.

to TheFirstAngel:Im a bit embarrassed...well...gosh...tnx! Tnx a lot! what can i say...doing this trailer i felt the potential for a cg perfet to be done in 3d...just like sky captain.Did you seen it?

to opentarget:Thank you for your kind comments,im happy to read i will post a lott of stuff.some grat models from Jimmydog!

to stripe:TNX A LOT. I hope to keep it up

11 November 2006, 03:39 PM (

Satellite model from JIMMYDOG!!! wow m8 this guy rox!
now i will proceed with detail and textures add,and jimmydog will animate it.hope you like it!

11 November 2006, 10:11 AM
Hey OZ...

The satellite looks very nice and it does feel like its form is from the current age (the events in the book take place in 2005 eitherway) so it will fit quite fine into your whole concept and visualisation so far:thumbsup:...

Just one question... How long do you intend to make your trailer entry? Since all or your models look very detailed, I hope you have a renderfarm lying around somewhere....:scream:

Will be checking back regulargly for updates... Good luck with the challenge...

11 November 2006, 10:50 AM
Plant with a bit taller trunks for the library. Look how big they are compared to your people and when was the last time you saw a true shrub that size?

But the archy is very regal and magnificent.

[EDIT] oops just saw the post of the semi final library a few above this and even though the plant still seems a bit big for it's family, it looks better.

How about a modernistic geometrical sculpture and/or fountain in the plaza? hehe ;)

[second edit] also there is quite a bit of useless space in that satellite. why would nasa/esu/russian enginners put so much wasted material into those trusses? they serve no purpose and would therefore never exist in real life.

11 November 2006, 12:54 PM
Nice work, interesting how it'll look in space.

Keep on !!!

11 November 2006, 12:01 PM (

Hi guys! Tnx a lot to everyone posting here.Having chat with you is one of the best side of the jobe. Here a post one of the firs "very close to final" render. This scene take place on heart orbit, where a satellite fall in the "stone" shadow.
This is the last week on pre visualization and storyboarding.
This weekend the final soryboard will be edited with rought audio in animatic form.(gosh...forgive my hard to explain what we are doing here! ^_^).
After a month long per project period,im very tired...but the hard part start now.Next week i got to record audio and music tracks to animate. The sound fx comes later.
now some image

11 November 2006, 03:25 PM (

Here sone extra panels to add in the satellite scene.I have to finish today and run the renderfarm (3 pc....sob)working.

11 November 2006, 11:41 AM
great work on the satellite! and again the library is fantastic im really enjoying watching this thread keep it coming!

11 November 2006, 10:32 AM (

WOOOOOH! after nights and night and gallons of coffee and beer...we finished the very first shot!!!
Im happy! tired but very happy...well..we got 56 shot to the end now...maybe a problem...dont you think!?

11 November 2006, 10:51 AM
Very good work OZ. Animation of the shot ?

11 November 2006, 11:34 AM
That's realy great. The texturing is really very high-detailed. I love the blue-red mood of it.
I don't know what to say else. I'm exited to see the next shots.

11 November 2006, 11:34 AM
THANK YOU!:scream:
Jimmydog will post it soon as possible...the scene is very simple, the satellite runs to the camera while the asteroid makes it dark to complete black.

11 November 2006, 03:24 PM
WOW! that looks fantastic!! love it keep it coming!

11 November 2006, 03:56 PM (

Here's a fist vision of the chandelier palace in Alexandria.Enjoy...

11 November 2006, 03:59 PM
Man that's great also. How do U get this little buildings? Did U use a displacement?

11 November 2006, 04:21 PM
To understood pretty well! i designed the stuff considering from "when" it comes. This is the general rule about the design of eon world.
HE HE HE my renderfarm is abot 4 pc!!! he he he..but i spent a lot on this trailer so i buy 2 pc more to render it.This weekend jimmydog open my eyes and so the 90 sec now is slipped to a more reasonable 60 sec.TNX TO POST AND SEEYA...

to kingmango:You are right about both library and satellite.
As you can see the satellite is finished and it is fare more detailed that the first version.
I hope to put the same details in the library scene.
I was thinking about a sculpture...but is is a theme that in the book is comple absent...Im still not sure if put some scupture or not.Is it is a good suggestion anyway.

to targus: TNX a lot! and compliments for you last entry!

to machichi:TNX M8! The little buildings..even in the green ground, are done with a trick.
I used 4 planes of opacity on a solid panel.
The solid one have a procedural tile texture, the upper planes have the same texture but with an opacity channel that mask some areas giving the illusion of solid stuff.
very light to build millions of buildings.

to Bethoven:Animation comes later.I ask jimmydog to work on posting animations.Anyway is ready a lot of stuff...and i hope to show it sonne as possible.

to opentarget:TNX TNX TNX! reading this helps a lot!!!

11 November 2006, 05:14 PM
I'm intrestin' in this 4 planes building trick 'cause I don't think my Mac will make it with so many buildings arround. Can U explaine me a little bit more. I tried out something but I did not get this exyctly result. Maybe I'm to dumb ;-)

11 November 2006, 11:30 AM (

Look at it clear enought? I hope so! ^_^

11 November 2006, 11:54 AM
That's really clear. I did a stupid little mistake (DUMBA...)

11 November 2006, 12:33 PM (

Here there are a couple of shot from the two of the almost closed cut.
(forgive my pizza's english!)
It is a bit an "alfa-omega" entry...the first and one of the last scenes in the trailer.

11 November 2006, 01:21 PM
U make me speechless (like always^^) looking great the sunset or dawn ;-) it's awseome

11 November 2006, 09:14 AM (

The spherical ship at the gate of axis city was one of that things that hit my fantasy reading the book.
The scene was exciting and spectacular,so i decided to put in the's the ovoship (as i call it) model.

11 November 2006, 01:53 PM
I would rather call it KIRBY ;-) Yeah this ship catch my fantasy also. Nice intepretation.

11 November 2006, 04:26 PM
Looking good OZ. I love the ovo-ship-thingie. Can't w8 to see some animated shots.

11 November 2006, 08:56 AM (

Here's the arrow ship model....I like a lot the MINIMAL look of the axis city vehicles, both ovoship and arrows as every vehicle in axis city have a minimal design. The laces on the hull want to express the mature sense of artistry and visual taste of a future society,as the thisledown is.(forgive my poor english guys!) all the ships will have the same kind of decorations.Hope you like it.

11 November 2006, 04:03 PM (

NEW OTV! the first otv was to shuttle like. The otv is an orbital I want it to be a blend between a shuttle and the Lem of apollo 13.
This model is 40% coplete.

11 November 2006, 04:52 PM

Nice designs man! Especially the library, really strong looking. It really translates as the foundation of knowledge. Good idea to raise the anticipation with the communications brakedown, but maybe a bit off the topic, since there wasn't such an episode in the book or wasn't really anything that implied it. or maybe I'm just being too uptight.:D Interested to see the final cut.

11 November 2006, 05:05 PM (

11 November 2006, 09:17 PM
Your OTV somehow reminds me of the Millenium Falcon :) But then again...maybe I should watch less TV. Anyway, I like it.

The communications breakdown does happen, but not when the asteroid arrives. It occurs during the Death when the nations take out their enemies´ sattelites. But I guess that is an acceptable variation from the book to make the arrival of the asteroid a bit more dramatic, no?

11 November 2006, 02:45 AM (

Brilliant shot! Excellent coloration all across the board.
Only tho, try not to over romanticide the scene - it might begin to look too closely to the first StarWars-movie images from the 70's. ...Then again... not a bad idea at all!

11 November 2006, 12:53 PM
just an impressive work !
I've seen all your thread, and wow...happy your not on the model challenge :bounce: :D

very great, as always i wait to see the next update :)

11 November 2006, 02:45 PM (

The OTV engines.Almost completed.I got a lot to work on otv!!

11 November 2006, 10:15 PM
great ship designs as well as the engines for the otv. I cannot wait to see the whole thing done. Keep up the great work.

11 November 2006, 11:38 AM
fantastic otv and arrow ship! i love the work in this thread!!

11 November 2006, 12:24 PM
Everything is ok, but DoF is making it "toy-like-looking", because of camera position and light.
Ok, ok i become silent i shut up.

11 November 2006, 08:07 AM
Hey Fabio!

Coffee and beer:argh: , what a terrible mix...but it seems to work so good for you:D !
I'm amazed again to see the stunning progress, love the first shot and the city scene is also very pleasant...and no crits for your ship designs, I like each of them:thumbsup: ...
Can't even imagine what you'll show us next, but I'm sure it will be great too...already congrats for you and your team, you are just showing top level work here!:)

11 November 2006, 04:55 PM (

Very first test on frant model.....very very wip!

11 November 2006, 11:43 PM
Wow! I step out for a week and a half and you guys really go to town. What fantasic models! That shot of the satellite in orbit is amazing. And that Frant looks totally how I pictured him. Ships, rockets, etc, etc. At the rate your going, 56 shots will be a breeze :scream:

I've said it before and I suspect this won't be the last time either, but I'm totally blown away by the level of detial you've been able to achieve for this project. Keep it coming!

11 November 2006, 02:01 AM
Me like Frant's keep rockin dude :-)

11 November 2006, 01:08 PM
very nice alien skin shader OZ... waiting to see more...

12 December 2006, 11:47 AM (

Here's one of the "death scenes".I plan some shots about war on the earth. The book does not describe it in detail, but in a blockbuster movie, that kind of scenes are a MUST.So...take a look an feel free to hard comment the effect...i took "inspiration" from Armageddon movie for this particular shot in Paris (guys i love this city!).

12 December 2006, 12:09 PM
...this particular shot in Paris (guys i love this city!).

So you then blow it up?

12 December 2006, 12:33 PM
to machichi:Tnx a lot! You are everytime so kind to me!:D geee TNX A LOT! Yes...the OVoeship is a bit kirby like he he he he ..i must to make it pink!

to Henrikl:ARGH! i have to admit it!! i got some problems finding time to learn how to post movies!we close some scenes but we still had not time to post it!!!GOSGH!! tnx for your comment about iv very nice animated!

to AOK:THank you AOK!! i put a lot of attention on library...and im very happy that the design transmit the strong feeling you talk about.MMMh..the communications brakedown happens late in the book..and is not a strong point in the book. You are right.Watching movies i noticed that is common to change things from the book, right to make the story more interesting to a "visual language" point of view. So I done the same.In general i face this job closer to the way a movie maker do.I point to create a trailer that looks like a "real" one, where the point is not to tell the story but attract people to the movie.I hope you will like the final!:wip:

to Galaktor:THE OTV IS VERY WIP!!! he he he he he he this point of development it is similar to millenium falcon! And,about the commdown...yes,is what i thought!!!Tnx posting here Raphael.

to Cofiction: OOOH TNX A LOT! well..this scene was just a wip.Aniway i have to change a lot of stuff not to make this shot to similar to a star wars movie!!! are right! i will!

to SweD: HE HE HE HE tnx a lot! this is too much to me! tnx! and, good luck for your challenge! Look like you are doing a brillinat work! i
taken a look of your work and is brilliant!

to robertp:!!!:love:tnx man!!!

to opentarget:HE HE HE TNX...I love read this comments! i need it! is so hard to close this work!

to targus: HE HE HE no are right! It is because i love the plastic models!^_^
so i did an "HOMAGE" to the times before CG!!! the final shots will be not HEAVY DOFed.

to daWinky: HE HE HE HE HEEEEE yes it is a terrible mix! he he he is a fortune that i drink it separately!!! ha ha ha a day of that i must try to mix it!!hehe....You are very kind.Tnx a lot for your words.Me and jimmydog are very happy to read helps.

to fifty3dragons:Nice to see you here again!! I miss you man! and, compliment for your work too!Im very happy to read your coment about the frant. It was very difficult to desing it! i have tons of concepts about it!! and i was never sure of his design.

to coolkonrad:TNX! it is a wip...but looks like it work!!Yeppeee!

to icedeyes: I love that skin too! it need a lot of work till the final verision comes!

12 December 2006, 12:35 PM
to Galaktor: HE HE HE HE HE HE YES YES HE HE HE...may be a "freud matter" but, yes,I destoryed all my favourite city in the trailer!! he he he.May be too much beer or coffee!

12 December 2006, 12:39 PM (

Almost completed OTV and a new shot!
the first "door" in the 7th chamber.
This scene take place in the 7th chamber, when patricia and other scientists analized the first door.
this scene is a Wip!!!and...again...fooooorgive my english!

12 December 2006, 01:00 PM
OK, good work man, but don't forget about time, it's not too much.

12 December 2006, 09:17 AM
to SweD: HE HE HE HE tnx a lot! this is too much to me! tnx! and, good luck for your challenge! Look like you are doing a brillinat work! i taken a look of your work and is brilliant! thanks for your words mate ! really appreciate :)

Your work on OTV is really cool as the rest !
But clearly deadline is approaching, can't wait to see your first anim shot ! keep up !

12 December 2006, 09:50 AM (

Here's another finished scene from the first part of the trailer.

12 December 2006, 10:27 AM
Grande OZ!!!
The color on the last scene is very suggestive.

Your work is very cool, i can't wait to see your final trailer.

See you soon.

12 December 2006, 01:24 AM
Yeah, this is really coming together now.

I notice that the color on the last image is very close to the color of the third image of the previous series of three shots (2 posts back; the one with the gargoyle in the foreground) except in that one the red/orange coloring is due to the nuclear blast. Does this mean the color for this last image represents a shot affected by a bomb blast, or should the color be tweaked to match the first image in the gargoyle shot (i.e. for continuity)? Does what I said even make sense?

Still, more beautiful detail. The OTV rocks!

12 December 2006, 07:56 AM
The live footage+CG shots look extremelly nice... one thing that seems a little strange to me is that the nuke explosion ring seems too parallel to the camera axis... I am sure it wil look great in motion though...

12 December 2006, 01:43 PM (

Mirsky's assault space suit elmet.
just a wip...a lot to work on it.

12 December 2006, 07:13 PM
Always good to see another post here! :) Are you going to hide him behind the visor or will there be an actual modelled head in there?

12 December 2006, 09:51 AM
last space vehicle is really interesting
I see for all the images a common background that is near to yukinobu hoshino's 2001 nights
Anyway it seems just a background
everything seems new and interesting

12 December 2006, 09:54 AM
To targus: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! you are damn right!!! Time is a killer for me now!!! i work almost 18 hours per day...TA DAAAANN!

to Swed:Wooh OTV is my favourite ship in the trailer! so i have put a lot of care on it...i dreamed more stuff on it you said...deadline is close to us!!

to ThE-ShiFT: TNX A LOT! im happy to read your comments! Great stuff on your thread too!

to fifty3dragons:Tnx 4 ur attention to this "run run running" thread. Well...about the colours, i taken a sort the beginning of the challenge.I choosen some movie snaps to establish how the trailer will look.So...there is not a real continuity will in the images you talk about, but there is a common sense of colour in it!
and...hehe under the helmet...there will be a 3d mirsky face!Just last week i taken photos of the performer huo give the character His face.

to icedeyes:HA!are you talking about the big blue line? if is a lens effect caused by a very intense lighthing.I put a lot of attention on lens effects.all the scenes are lens deformed and all the light aberrations are included to give everything a real trailer look.

See you next week with major updates.

12 December 2006, 10:06 AM
To Carlocki: YES!! you are right! all the vehicles,as the spacesuits, are inspired by hoshino work.
A big source of inspiration was 2001 space odissey...and all the works of Syd Mead.
Anyway 2001 nights is one of my favourite comic series.
PS: grazie per la dritta su monster house...VISTO...UN GIOIELLO!

12 December 2006, 02:14 AM
I am a big fan of EON (have been since I was 14 years old or so), and this trailer is really exciting to watch. What are you plans for audio and music?

12 December 2006, 05:01 PM (

ovoship claw...just to post something!

12 December 2006, 05:32 PM
Looking good, this challange is getting better for every day!

12 December 2006, 06:50 PM
Great Fabio! :bounce: we were just waiting for your update! Great mecha design, and also the helmet is really promising!
Keep up, you're really inspiring us!

ThE-ShiFT team

12 December 2006, 07:10 PM
Great to see another update! That claw is amazing, but then I've come to expect nothing less from this thread. :)

33 days to go!!!

The music is almost done...but im not still sure if everything fits the mood of the entire trailer.

to coolkonrad: Yes,the trailers all around are growing up with an high quality! I taken a look to the poster and the scene challenge, and there are icredible stuff too...but here in the trailer challenge area, the things are really HOT!

Here's some frames from the claw animation test.
I like a lot the "spinal" look of the ovoship arms.Hope you like it as me!^_^

12 December 2006, 01:29 PM (

This is more or less what you will see in the final scene.Enjoy.

12 December 2006, 01:36 PM
The claw rocks! Really metalic. I get a big kick out of all this! That animation will be a nice shock!

12 December 2006, 08:00 PM
I really cant wait to see that claw animated!

12 December 2006, 09:17 PM
Those last few renders are pretty nice OZ. Good motion blur on the claw.... Curious to see how it will hold up when composited into your scene... Good luck.

12 December 2006, 06:59 PM
Beautiful images! I love the snake-like/spinal arm of the claw.

I'm curious, how long does it take to render those images. And do you anticipate render-time being a problem near the end? Your stuff is so wonderfully detailed, I'm wondering how long it's going to take to actually get the whole thing rendered. Are you doing a full 90 seconds?

12 December 2006, 05:49 PM
Nice claws, oz. Reminds me of Doc Oc in Spiderman 2. Keep em comin...

12 December 2006, 07:23 AM
Hey Fabio,

always a pleasure to go through your latest updates, much to discover! I like your vision of the Frant, very promising and I'm eager to see more of it:thumbsup: ...About the renderings of the "Great Death"...hard enough to see one of my favorite cities blown up here, but I hope you don't even think of blowing up your home town:scream: , I definitely love Florenz and I'm a little envy to imagine that you actually live there:D ...
Great design of the claw thing and I can't wait to see the certainly stunning animated scene...I cross all my fingers that your still in your time plan!:bounce:

Keep up the great work and a nice and creative day for you!

to icedeyes: HE HE...yes...u are right! it looks really as he say that! The final lanyer is more unespressive.

First half of the final scene of the russian attack to the stone.

01 January 2007, 07:31 PM
Well, I don't know how many ways there are to say "I'm speechless" but I think I've used all of them looking at this thread. What a professional looking trailer your team is putting together. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the "making-of" from you guys!!! :)

A question: I'm curious about the blur effect in several of your shots. Is that simply something that happens as your render out the shots, or is some/all of it post work you do in another program? I'm very interested to know how such a look is acheived. Also the engine blast on nthe Russian heavy lifters. Is that post work or some sort of particle effect?

01 January 2007, 11:50 PM
Even though we had to give up on this (huge) challenge, I still come back on a regular base to check out what OZ is up to :)

I really hope you make the deadline, you have real good chances in winning this one (which is my opinion...for the protocoll) and you surely would deserve it.

But so do some other brilliant works on this keep up your impressing work!

01 January 2007, 11:55 PM
Looks cool oz. But I would suggest easing up on the motion blur. Although it's hard to say from just a still..

01 January 2007, 07:30 PM
I suppose the blur was done in post production. If not, Henrik's right...

01 January 2007, 04:44 PM (

A light and color test on Lanier version 3.
Im now on still not satisfied by characters...

01 January 2007, 04:55 PM
To spire:Tnx again man! your words ever help me and jimmydog to close this work better we can.

to fifty3dragons:GREAT TNX TO YOU! :scream:
MMh..well..the motion blur fx or dof is a camera effect rendered directly in max.I got three type of motion blur in max and i use both of them combined in different ways depending by the scene. About engines fx,it is not particles in this case. The engines are rendered by a multilayered glow effects.Again is a set of filters that are into max core.
anyway..i use different techniques to achieve the effect i need.Sometime i draw frame by frame effects in paint programs,to make an animation with it in a second time, than i put everything in max as a animated map.

01 January 2007, 07:07 PM
Cool lightning. Keep up the good work.

01 January 2007, 07:48 PM
Thank's you too for support, I like this render of Larnier. Which is your discontent about it?

01 January 2007, 09:03 PM
Hey Fabio,

I don't know what you all require for the trailer entry but you have alot of cool work .  Your character modeling looks very good as do your ships and storyboards.
Great stuff and good luck.

01 January 2007, 06:54 AM
hey buddy!

this is marvellous stuff! :buttrock: really love the storyboard  the ship design is fantastic! plus ur charater modelling is freaked out amazing! whoa! so much to look at man! love em all!

01 January 2007, 07:15 AM
Hey Fabio!

No suggestions or crits from me, I'm just too impressed about the amount of wonderful work you're showing here:thumbsup: ! Everything looks great so far and I'm sure with the extended deadline you will also bring Lanier to your liking...So just a little cheering from me and I'm looking forward to the next updates:) ...!

01 January 2007, 08:29 AM
you know i really like it before i say it man... great skin shader... keep on it and show us a finished entry...

01 January 2007, 09:36 AM (

another light test.

01 January 2007, 10:21 AM
Very good OZ. I like the jacket. But face of the man is little blured for my taste. Look like paiting...

01 January 2007, 11:08 AM (

the final scene will perform a different character...not lanier.

01 January 2007, 11:31 AM
Wery good lightning, and model. Rock on!

01 January 2007, 12:28 PM (

A almost final version of the "invasion from axis city" scene from Jimmydog!
He have done an incredible job with it...there are a lot of special fx and of the best shots in my opinion.

01 January 2007, 03:47 PM
Beautiful lighting on the spacesuit. The model, as I've said before, is outstanding.

Great work by Jimmydog too. I'm anxious to see his stuff in motion.

Oh yeah, and I like the little lighting guy. Will he make it into the final cut? hehe

01 January 2007, 04:52 PM
TO Henrikl: Tnx m8! mmh..Im not sure I understood you....what did you think? is it too much blurred or not a lot?

to Galaktor:TNX A LOT are very kind to us!
Yesh...this challenge is VERY....huge...woohoo...AH,the blur is not in post production.

to coolkonrad:Tnx a lot Peter! Light is a pivotal point in this trailer...and about humans,a good lighting may changes everything.

to mmoir:HUMANS!!! MORE HUMANS! :scream: aaaaaaaah! he he he ...i have a lot of little scene to complete before close the 90 sec version of the trailer...some enviroment are HUGE..Alexandria city have many many buildings and they are all different. But humans are a "MUST" and i have still to close the job on it!

to nwiz25:TNX TNX TNX....i was amazed by your work too!

to daWinky:OOh...thank you ! Glad to see you here again! I hope you will be right about one of the pivotal character in the cant be less than perfect.

to icedeyes:uuff ufff uuffs uuffs...i run i run i run...TNX A LOT M8!

to still not sure o jacket and i cgree with you about the dof.
My problem with clothing is about mapping....i cut the image in that way to hide some big error on it.

to fifty3dragons:the lighting guy IS MEEEEEEH EH EH EH EH EH EH! mmmh puttin it inside may be a good idea....i can use that drawings in alexandria city!!! a bit lazy...because i have some animated cuts ready to be post.

01 January 2007, 04:53 PM (

more on camera tests

01 January 2007, 10:27 PM
Marvelous looking feat!
These details you create on your scenes are quite the dazzling ones.
Characters work very well, good job!

01 January 2007, 12:33 AM
Love the looks of those last two lighting tests. Extremely sexy looking light!

01 January 2007, 09:01 AM
Pro stuff bro!

The level of detail and sence of realism is truly on its own in this competition. Can't really give any crit on that. I'm concered though about the whole. Will you guys make it on time, because the tests and renderings promise alot, but I still can't get my head around the whole. Can't really picture the whole thing, would be good to see at least a rendered storyboard. Definetly winning material, and I think it would be a huge shame not to see it on the finish line. I don't know what stages of production you are at, but wish you guys the best luck and may the force be with you :D

01 January 2007, 09:29 AM
ho man, i really can't wait TO SEE THIS TRAILER !! :scream:
finish him please ! :bounce:

I'm not truly professional for animation, i've just made some travelling for Eon, but yours seems to be really hot dude !

Looks really good. One crit though, the flare from the blast would occur after the ring shaped blast nad would spike in intensity as the cap blew away. The blast does originate inside the stone.

01 January 2007, 06:13 PM
This looks good in all, but I'm sorry, I need to crit this also :D
If the overal feel in picture is realizm, then it's only fair to assume that it abides some laws of physique, in this case at space - darwinism. -->

When an object in space achieves a directed relative motion - it stays with that motion forever without slowing down untill re-affected by an alternative outer force.

You need to decide which of the pieces gets this motion from the blast, or is it both.
The smaller fragment in this case clearly needs to exit the scene like the other debris if indeed applied as much force. It would seem now that this given volume of blast would destroy the stone completely - besides it would look much better with the applied laws and if timed like BC1967 suggests.

01 January 2007, 10:42 PM
What a beautiful animation! It's great to finally see your stuff come to life!!!

Two minor questions I thought of: 1) given the overall scale, there's something about the speed of the explosion that makes the asteroid feel smaller to me than the several hundred miles it actually is. Would we expect more of a long, slow blast like that of a nuclear bomb from a long distance? 2) there's a light reflection on the Earth just after the main flash that makes the planet look really small and close. At that distance, would light reflect off the Earth at all (in any noticeable way)?

But as for the "cool" factor (which must always be accounted for), this one is definitely a fabulous looking shot! Your animation is certainly living up to what the still images have been promising. Great job!!!

01 January 2007, 06:46 AM
im so glad to see you posting animation! it looks amazing!

01 January 2007, 04:46 PM
Stunning scene!!! happy to see finally your animation, we love so much the lighiting on the moon and on the stone too.
Just one crit. the render of the earth in the background it's a little bit flat.
But is a very minor crit.
Great work bro!!!

01 January 2007, 10:15 AM
this shot looks great fabio... only crit is that after the explosion, the burning part of the rock looks like its kind of bloody... more on the still than in the video... other than that just great work...

01 January 2007, 03:53 PM
UGH!!! i got 1000 things to fix in this animation!! mmmh..i have to conside to trash it out from the trailer!;) target was to have a spectacular explosion for the end of the i have paid attention to the overall effect.
some parts of the animation are the it have a flat effect.I taken a look to space photography and i noticed that planets or satellites as the moon, when are seen by great distances looks flat. so i have done earth in the same way.
about the eplosion in the specific...there are things that i dislike also....i give 100 point to fifty3dragons! because the bigger fault in asteroid explosion is the sense of wrong dimension by the fragment speed.
the flare occur a couple of frames after the asteroid "crack"...but that crack is invisible in y fault! orgh! ....mmh..i hope to fix other aspect of it...for example ...the bad blue flat colour on the plasma ring....
tnx to you all guys for your attention and comments to this thread!!!

01 January 2007, 04:36 PM (

my friend V/stol.....some detalis to add and it will be finished....

01 January 2007, 04:50 PM
Fantastic model as always! Lovin' the engines: very much anime style!

Please don't wipe out the asetroid sequence just because you have to fix it !!! It'ok bro! It's a great shot! plz dont do it!

01 January 2007, 09:42 PM
Hey yeah, I'm with ThE-ShiFT guys on this one. Don't dare toss out that asteroid animation!!! It's really great, one of the best shots in the competition for sure. I'm sure people's comments were just to help put the polish on it if there's time. That doesn't mean it isn't still top notch animation. It's a damn fine shot as is and deserves it's place in the trailer! You guys rock!!

Edit: btw, the VSTOL looks great too!
