I wanted to know that It is better to use GDI or GDI+ for developing a new application with Visual C++ (win32 API) for Windows 2000, XP and Vista (both 32bit and 64bit version)?

What is your recommendation?

Thanks in advance

I have used both myself. GDI code looks IMO rather ugly, is difficult to learn & use, but it is a little faster than GDI+. GDI+ looks very elegant, is easy, fast to use, offers a number of extra options etcetera. Besides that, GDI+ is more modern and there will be more support for it in the future than old plain GDI. IIRC, it will be the default library Vista uses for its graphic stuff.

So, if you have time to spend more development time on your project and speed is really necessary (it isn't THAT faster, but every millisecond counts, doesn't it? ;), you can consider using old plain GDI. Otherwise, I would definitely use GDI+.
