"In a year chockfull of computer animated films, leave it to Europe to pull out one that's nothing like the computer animated films we've been seeing lately.

No, there isn't a single talking animal to be found in Renaissance (, a gritty futuristic crime story, realized mostly in black-and-white, about a police officer named Karas, voiced by Daniel Craig, who must find a missing research from the mega-corporation Avalon, who have been dabbling in questionable secret experiments. It combines the look of a Hollywood crime noir film with the exciting feel of Japanese anime, but is distinctive for its future Paris setting and complex amalgam of sci-fi and crime drama.

Director Christian Volckman has spent the last six years of his life in this world, and had a chance to speak to him about the innovative animation techniques used to make the film, which opens in limited release on Friday.`

Interesting article, from the trailer I saw a few months ago I thought it was live action and they'd roto'd the crap out it, didn't realize it was motion capture.
