View Full Version : Problem with Duplicate??

I am kind of new with modeling (first car model), but even this seems weird to me, and I hope you guys can help me with this.
my model is a polygon which I slowly carved out with a car shape.
what I need now is to duplicate the half of the body with transform -X and than attach the vertices so that later on I can create layers from the faces of the body.

but check what I get when I try do that:

above is the model (it seems all fine in the beginning when I did the BOX duplication than carved the car out)

so above I removed the left (duplicated instance part) and getting ready to re-duplicate

the options

and this is the result of the duplicate.

btw, if I press the "Duplicate with transform" it does work.... but i need the mirror instance not a direct duplicate.

someone knows how to fix this problem?

Hey Shanytc,

The problem is in your options. You are duplicating an instance and then translating in -1 unit along the x axis. What you want to be doing is making sure your pivot point is centered and snapped to the middle of the car (cant see if your pivot is on the middle grid from the angle you've given) and then duplicated along the -1 x SCALE. This should solve your problem.

[EDIT] Just to add, I notice all your other scale attributes are set to 0. If you duplicate something and it has a scale of 0 then it will essentially have no mass. What you want is to duplicate something with a scale of 1:1. So for the duplication your after you want the following:

x: -1 y: 1 z: 1
