This is a project I am doing just for fun. Its not orginal or anything but fantasy art is my favorite. I wanted to try making a high poly version and projecting the detail onto a low poly. Crits and workflow suggestions would be much apreciated.
Im basically finished modeling the head and now trying to bring the body up to the same level of detail.

Oh that dragon's from a D&D poster...the model looks good so far, especially the head.

it's pretty damn cool.
the 3d model looks good too,
I like how jagged it looks in the lowpoly cage, before smoothing,
would be nice to see some more of that jagginess retained in the smoothed model..
but not lowpoly jaggy, I just mean shape/form.
if that makes any sense.
anyways, i'd like to see what else you got comin up! keep at it.

The concept art is from the D&D Draconomicon (the book of dragons). This is actualy the blue dragon. It burrows in the sand, and its breath weapon is lightning.

awesome work! I love the details of the head and the polycount seems reasonable.

Heres an update. dam shoulder and arm topolology gave me fits, I know it can be improved but I been looking at it so long I just cant see were.
I scaled the head down some, and added some definition to the front leg and shoulder.

Really nice modeling, you going to zbrush it seems ideal for it.

Man, I didn't see this yet, it looks great. Would be nice if you can go in and sculpt it. That head is top notch, and I'm sure the body will be just as good before you finish.

Yes, its getn zbrushed and then projected onto a lowpoly mesh.

Im focusing on the anatomy around the wing/shoulder area right now. The current wings are placeholders and will be detailed more.
This first image is distorted from the perspective, so the porpotions look weird

Nice work so far, the head is excellent, this one is just screaming out to be taken into Zbrush

Heres an update. This project has been a great learning experience for me. Zbrush is your friend. Still got a long way to go.

The head is pretty cool. He looks like he is about the size of a dog though. I think if you slimmed up his limbs and exagerated his proportions a bit he would look like he was the right scale. :)

Hey squirmy, its starting to look real good, but I agree with tofugorilla that something has to be done about the proportions. I for one would try making his chest wider, as his legs almost seem too close together.

Super modelling, great design, and great Zbrushing, too. I'm jealous at anyone who can make that weird program make sense! :thumbsp:
But as for the body proportions, I'll also have to say the first thing I thought of was a dog. And not even a mean one, more of a puppy actually. Don't know what to do about it thought.
