hey guys, i just graduated from Dev Studios in Edmonton Alberta Canada with a 3D modeing and texturing diploma. it was a 6 month course.We had about a month and a half to do our reel, so not much time, but enough. So heres mine, all done with maya, and mental ray, and all put together in after effects. i am now persuing more complicated models and textures, since i do not have a time limit right now. Tell me what you guys think!

the car looks like cg, it does not look very convincing. the second model i really donīt have idea what the hell is that thing.

the third model looks unfinished, and the music is very discracting, by the way i think you must practice a lot more. becuase the quality is not really impresive.

dude did you do that in 1 and half month? ok doki.

i think you are doing right in try more hardcore stuff. and more complex models. try to do hi poly modeling that helps alot.

i myself expend 4 moths in a model, and at the end, i just give up, but instead of trying to fix it, i started a new one. thats why iīm still practicing my modeling skills, becuase honestly i want toimpruve a lot.

thanks guys for the good feed back, yea that 2nd peice is a car axle, i mosly put this together for school marks, but i am going to do some good poly modeling here soon, well right now. Time was definately the factor here.

Thanks for the comments though.

Any more sugestions on how to set the reel up or on my work in general would be very appreciative!

Hi! For having so little time to learn and cut together a reel (I can sympathize) it's not bad. I suggest playing around more with mental ray's Car Paint shader since it is awesome and easy to use. It would make your car look a lot cooler, and try to make the windows more transparent. Also try to not use pure black backgrounds since it can sometimes be hard to tell the detail along the edges of things. Also the music is a little distracting at times. Other than that, just keep adding and learning and finish your soldier model (and try out misss_fast_skin while you're at it). Good luck!

thnaks so much for your very informative crit!

I am having trouble with the Maya Carpaint a little bit, the car is way too reflective, and needs softer reflections. i just had trouble geting the paint down. if you have any advice or tutorials for it i would be very happy to hear them!

shots are wayyyyyyyyyy toooooo long, i was uninterested after the first 2 spins of each model. good effort keep it up, but u gotta lot of work to do.
