View Full Version : Best Card for Maya?

Which is currently the best card for Maya at the moment, considering i'm working mostly in shaded/x-ray mode and need to use hardware texturing a lot?!

is it the quadro XL980 or the Fire GL X1? furthermore do you guys know where to get the best prices for each of these cards in europe?

considering it's cost, the ati fireGL X1 has turned out to be a very dissapointing card. given the choice of the two you mention, i'd certainly choose the quadro.

of note: the other quadro cards (particularly the 750 and 900 XGL) have had some huge price cuts of late, which make them even more tempting for those looking for the "best bang for your buck" style deal.

can't help you with european prices, i'm sorry. check your local online retailers.

PNY Quadro 900 XGL starts at 673
PNY Quadro 750 XGL starts at 485

check for local dealers (germany or austria)

I would try and stick with a card that is certified for use with Maya.

A lot of people swear by the Quadro 700/750/900's. If price is an issue, you could go with the ATI Fire GL 8800. It's less expensive and is certified to run with Maya (I do not believe the Fire GL X1 is).
