I'm curious to know the time span these were created. Thanks for sharing

09 September 2006, 06:06 PM
OMG, I don't see an animation reel like that in a long time now.
You are a top notch pro.

Incredible the way you animate, great timming, pose, everything, you make 'the magic', few animator do 'the magic'.
Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm watching this in loop, slow motion, frame by frame... *lol*

Congratulations on FP !

My best wishes,

09 September 2006, 06:09 PM
So in the end does the pretzel knight finally manage to slay the pretzel maiden and ride away on the pretzel dragon? ;)

Loved the loose way those moved. Very fluid and appealing.

09 September 2006, 06:13 PM
Great stuff Maxim!
Making us proud :D

09 September 2006, 06:57 PM

09 September 2006, 08:40 PM
Awesome demo reel! The expressions and movement are great.

09 September 2006, 09:09 PM
Wow man, that's amazing! Well deserved front page and 5 stars from me, more if I could! Simply excellent!

09 September 2006, 09:09 PM
OK, I'm going into super-critical mode for this reel that really blew me away. :)

1. The pretzel monster and the cow/bear anim were most technically impressive to me.

2. The squirrel callgirl :P (low-res) and the crying child (weird animation and tear moved strangely) didn't seem to belong in this reel.

3. The sound didn't time perfectly with the animation in the baseball scene (a 10 second club entry?)

4. I liked the mouse and the sheep (pretty simple compared to the other but he just looks so stuupid :P)

Even with these things, it still is one of the most impressive reels I've seen. Very very well done indeed! :)

09 September 2006, 10:10 PM
Is a rare thing indeed. You make me proud but also baffled that so many of the animations I knew from TV were made by just one person. Wow. Are you thinking about moving and trying your luck abroad (as I am attempting, though I am still a student)...with these works in your belt I am certain you could get a position in a place like Pixar or ILM, hmm??
Also, did you learn animation in Israel? Where?
Great reel. Best of luck.

09 September 2006, 10:27 PM
Very impressive reel :)

09 September 2006, 10:30 PM
Where were you?

09 September 2006, 10:37 PM
Love your work, Maxim!
פשוט מקסים

09 September 2006, 08:08 AM
Mate, this is awesome reel! Very nice skills! One question though- I`m interested in the making of the dog/dragon commercial. Who rigged it ? How did you do the transformation ? Particles ? Thanks in advance!

09 September 2006, 09:03 AM
Very intresting works. Nice stuff:thumbsup: 5stars

09 September 2006, 09:22 AM
Absolutely brilliant.

Like someone else asked, how was that pretzel monster rigged? I was totally blown away.
Is it perhaps a combination of goals and traditional joint binding?

I really liked the water/liquid guy too, but then again I liked everything in your reel

09 September 2006, 10:17 AM
There has been a serious amount of gushing in this thread - and you deserve every single bit of it - this is simply unbelieveable work. The pretzel monster is just jaw-dropping. You have serious talent!

09 September 2006, 11:58 AM
Oops, my firewall was blocking the other images and the link.

09 September 2006, 12:12 PM
Very impressive works! :bounce:

And beetlejuice's theme for the song is very funny! Beetlejuice is the best! :scream:

09 September 2006, 12:31 PM
That's just about the best reel one could ever ask to see. It has everything. I'm guessing you were a traditional animator and added cg, like many of us, since there is cel work as well.
Superb stuff. Especially fond of the morphing pretzel characters and their animation as well!

My son spent 7 months in Israel last year, and loved it. May God continue to protect Israel.

09 September 2006, 01:11 PM
The actions shots were overall good (some very good) but you should take out the acting shot at the end.
Seemed very weak compared to everything else. Some weird head angles at the end on the main character and questionnable choice of acting...
Depending on where you wish to apply, studios like dreamwork and Pixar seems to want to see a good deel of acting; wich is missing in your reel.

good job nonetheless

09 September 2006, 02:55 PM
Superb work!

At last I know who has doen those awesome comercials.
your Baigel Baigel (dog dragon castel and knight) drive my cruzy

tell us how you hv doen it please

09 September 2006, 02:58 PM
Hi Maxim,

This is one of the best animation reels I've seen in a long time! You are VERY talented. The fluid motion, spot-on timing and emotion that comes from your characters is amazing! So, how come you're not working at Pixar?

09 September 2006, 03:42 PM
Pixar didn't invite me yet. I'm not pushing ;)

09 September 2006, 03:55 PM
excellent, that was fun to watch.

09 September 2006, 04:22 PM
very nice work mate :applause:

09 September 2006, 05:08 PM
Want to thank all mates for such amasing replies! I am truly overhalmed for a while now. I feel like I won an Oscar or something. Guess all the sleepless nights were worth it.

A few word about pretzel rig. Over-all it was simle and I could move each piece separately. There were a few good scripts to randomly select and morph between different kind of pretzels, but you don't see this scenes in showreel. What you do see was all moved "by hands".

I love to move it all by myself :)

09 September 2006, 06:51 PM
cool work 5 stars:thumbsup:

09 September 2006, 09:29 PM
man, really nice work. i love the music too. goes really well with your reel.

09 September 2006, 09:31 PM
Really awesome character animation, great work you rock mate!

09 September 2006, 09:41 PM
very creative and inspiring reel indeed, a lot of great stuff on it. weight is not your greatest strenghts though :D this would be my only crit. OK, let me tell you what are the shots I absolutely love in your reel, from an animation standpoint. here we go, in order of appearance:

1) the cow and bear first shot - for appealing, fluid movement, and clarity. the shapes really flow very well and read well as well :)

2) the immediately next shot of the cute furry mouse girl - for immensely appealing expression and tongue thingy :D

3) the cow and bear second shot - same reasons as for the first shot.

4) the strong blue splashy dude's second shot (immediately after the pretzel dragon-to-princess transformation shot) - for great timing and powerful, absolutely believable movement. this shot has awesome weight.

5) the three headed pretzel dragon overlapping-heads-play-thingy - for very cool overlapping action

6) the iPod dude on blue background - for natural dynamics in the movement, and appealing gesture

7) the last shot - for, again, natural dynamics and detailed movement; this one looks and feels absolutely pro. my favourite shot ;)

there must be more, but many of them pass by so fast it's really hard to judge :D so I've only considered the ones that stay on screen enough time to read well. also, some have extremely fast movement, that looks fluid and all, but doesn't read so well in the context of the demo reel. this is not necessarily a crit and I'm not even sure about these superfast shots on a demo reel... are they OK to have them there or not... I wonder what others think about this issue...

09 September 2006, 11:22 PM
That is a fantastic reel - plenty of great squash and stretch in the animations, strong poses and a lot of life and energy in the characters! That pretzel dragon was awesome, I loved it.

My only suggestion is to add your name and contact details again at the end of your reel, because after such an exciting showreel it would really stick in people's heads.

Keep up the great work, you've inspired me to keep working hard so I can get to your level someday!

09 September 2006, 07:14 AM
sweetWork! man...totally love the variety...:)

maybe you could just trim it down a little bit...just to make it even more solid..

09 September 2006, 07:59 AM
I bet is great, but i can't download it .Anyone else has the same problems ?

Edit : Ugrh.... My connection sucks :D

09 September 2006, 10:25 AM

09 September 2006, 01:17 PM

09 September 2006, 01:38 PM
That reel is one of the best I have seen yet, and something to aspire towards as a new animator.

09 September 2006, 05:43 PM
great ones

09 September 2006, 08:25 PM
As I was scrolling down the praises and congratulations while I was waiting for the reel to download I was thinking...." this reel THAT good?".... and then I watched it....
WHAT THA?!?!?!

Totaly awesome! What can I say..... keep it up?.... hehe.... 10*!

09 September 2006, 08:55 PM
Very nice

09 September 2006, 08:58 PM
simply great work, max. i love it, very cool stuf there, keep it up.

09 September 2006, 10:46 PM
FANTASTIC STUFF. Really loved it. Music worked a treat.

09 September 2006, 02:37 AM
Hi Maxim,

This is a very inspiring character animation reel...Thank you for sharing it with us. Also, the music complements your animations ever so perfectly...awesome animation and great editing.

Would love to see more stuff from you in future. Keep entertaining!!!:bounce:

09 September 2006, 04:48 AM
Great stuff, indeed! Don't know if this was asked yet or not, but if I may, - what software do you use? What's your training and background?

09 September 2006, 01:31 PM
THats one hell of a reel man:scream: , its awesome, keep going, hope to c more of ur works:)

09 September 2006, 03:12 PM
Hello Webhead !
This is all Amasing Maya man!

About background and training. As long as I remember myself I've always interested in catroon characters and animation, drew a lot in this style, flip-animated all my notebooks at school, comixes etc. etc.
When I started to work in traditional animation at 1994 I've had two amazingly talanted animators/teachers to shape me up and teach me animation trade: Albert Zmora and Arie Harnam. They are currently work with Pitchi Poy Animation Studio in Israel.
During long period I've learn from Walt Disney masters by watching their magic frame by frame, and finally in 2000 I've been pulled in 3D world by greatly talented animator and artist Orna Aizenstein who's running Pitchi Poy Animation Studio's3D Department.

I just merged all this keys in one point.

09 September 2006, 09:24 PM
Great work! :applause: My favorites were the pretzel characters and the blue fluid guy. Excellent! :)

09 September 2006, 11:22 AM
Excellent !
My favourite is the goat who's chewing, so funny !

09 September 2006, 12:42 PM
I'm really impressed....
when I see these things I start studing more and more...

09 September 2006, 06:22 PM
OK...If Disney/Pixar doesn't hire you after seeing that reel then they would have to be asleep at the wheel.

I dream of the day I'll be able to animate like that. THE best animation reel I've ever seen. Amazing work.

09 September 2006, 05:16 AM

09 September 2006, 10:49 PM

That is amazing animation!
What 3d/2d software did you use to create them?

Can you please brieflye explain your educational background, and techniques for animating?
How does one get to the level of expertise you have?
