This ( my new reel that I've just completed, I'm currently on the jobhunt in the San Francisco Bay Area. I wish it was going alot better than it is, so PLEASE:
-post comments
-rip me apart
-mention anything that could be better/added/taken out/moved around...
-any constructive criticism AT ALL!

You can also look at my portfolio online ( (which has some stuff not in the reel) but I ask that you please download the demo only from this link ( as I'm trying to conserve bandwidth on my main site.

DOWNLOAD HERE (20 mb Windows Media) (

Thanks for looking!

I like your characters a lot but I think they are taking much time on screen, also it`d be cool if you can add some concepts sketches of them

and if you can have some camera moving on the environments instead of a still shot, that`d help to make it more dynamic

Hey Alex,

Great work overall - my suggestions would just be in cutting the reel a bit finer. First, we don't need to see quite so many revolutions of the same angle. Maybe do a few seconds of rendered, then wireframe or wireframe over render or wireframe over faded render... well, you get the idea. Maybe a closeup to a particularly impressive/complicated element of the model or character. otherwise, i think the reel gets a bit weird in the middle, around the time udderman shows up. this is just my opinion, but i think udderman and space monkey just don't stand up against the rest of your work. seeing a good :30 remaining, i was expecting the work after space monkey to be of lower quality than the two preceding characters, but i think Shteve is one of your best characters - you only have a certain amount of time to impress - if you're not sure something qualifies as your best work, leave it out. people can be really tempermental - they see something they just don't like, and that's what's gonna make a lingering impression. Your game environment is pretty nice, although I'd like to see it in color. One thing that really bothers me about it is that I'm simultaneously looking at a title that says "Game Environment" and a couple of objects (ceiling fan, phone, and even the lamp, coatrack, rabbit ears on tv, and drawer knobs) with waaaay too many faces. Hope that some of the helps. Good luck with everything and keep up the good work!

oops - forgot about this with all my rambling - excellent point made here by matias. Your characters have a lot of energy and personality - it would be a credit to you and them to briefly show the designs and sketches that they originated from.

mediaramas, iwadya, thank you for your compliments and for taking the time to reply!

In terms of the auditorium- I will take that tip and start rendering a fly through instead of the stills.

You guys are also probably right about the length it goes on for- you know how it is when you are working on something for a long time, you stop seeing it for what it is. I will try cycling each piece for less time.

I will also consider removing the apocalypse cow pieces, and moving shteve earlier in the reel. Update coming soon!

Thanks again guys! Cheers
