Hi all! :o)
Just want to let you know that my latest personnal VFX Shot, that I told you about in this thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=384366), is done.
"There's a sniper on this house, shooting at the soldiers running for their lives... and then a tank solves the problem" :)
You can download the video over here : DOWNLOAD THE VIDEO (http://sebastien.laban.free.fr/blog/files/snipertanksoldiers.avi) (right click, save as...)
FINAL SHOT :
BEFORE SHOT :
BEHIND THE SCENE :
Boujou was used for the Camera Tracking. Then everything was sent to Maya. Some part were rendered with Maya Software and others with Mental Ray (Ambiant Occlusion on the Tank for instance). The Final shot was composited in Combustion! :p
The Live Action footage was shot with a Panasonic NG-GS400, with a Glidecam Steadicam system.
There is a wireframe animation of this shot here : WIREFRAME ANIMATION (http://sebastien.laban.free.fr/blog/files/snipertanksoldiers_makingof.avi). (right click, save as...)
Let me know what you think! :o)
I'm working on another thing right know (less dark and more colorful... something cute, i'm hoping)! :p

I like it. Good composition! The smoke effect is great. It would be cool if you could show thw original video to compare ;-)
Keep it up!
Franchement ca le fait , juste je trouve y a un peu trops de trucs qui passe devant la camera.. Mais ca reste un avis personnel..
Keep it up ..

the effects are great! but the idea doesn't come across clearly even after reading your description... maybe you need to up the sound fx of the sniper rifle, took me a while to notice where exactly he was... maybe he's just a really stealthy sniper eh...? :D
Nice shot - I like the mood of it but I found the shot a bit confusing (noticed the sniper the second time I watched it) but that is probably just because it was a single shot out of context.
Seeing a brakedown would be cool.

Very nice, but colored version will be better ;)
I understand that grayscale is easier to do, but anyway...

Yeah, I totaly understand you guys by saying you couldn't understand it at the first show. That's what I was afraid of. :)
That's why I introduced the video with "There's a sniper on this house..."
I made that shot thinking at a full sequence that would have this shot. (thus there would have been a continuity) :p
but I mainly made that shot to experience myself with dealing with real-life footage. :o)
I first replaced th sky... then I rain effect could look good to ... oh!, something could happen in front of us! etc... you know... hihih :)
anyway, that was fun integrating this CG elmeents in "real life" :o)
Thanks for the comments! It always helps! :o)

Cool, this is nice emotional shot. I like both of your work. Both works are high leavel. Nice work !!
The only thing that I can talk about was your rain. When I saw this reel first time I didn't even know it's raining. Which is good if you wanna show other stuff more. I thin good choies. But When secound time I saw this, I noticed that rain makes little bit wired. I think just because movement of rain is too even. You can randomise that. And I'm not sure but you can try to add bigger rain right infront of your camera. Then I think we will feel more depth and realism.
keep doing !! This is really cool work man.

Actually there is already 3 different kinds/layers of rain. :)
One is in the very front the camera, a second somewhere near the fence (middle ground) and the last one is at the background (where the house is).
The things is there is a lot of Depth of field the in first layer (the foreground), less DOF in the middle ground and none on the background.
I think that's why we can't see it... even though i was hoping you could feel it hihi :p
But that a nice note, i'll see if I can stressed the foreground/middleground rain out a little more :)
thanks Yuta! :)
