View Full Version : Rounding some edges...

Ok, I've been working with 3ds max 8 for about 3 weeks now. I've done many tutorials, but I have yet to find one that really challenged me or one that explained something...rounding squared off edges.

I decided to make a 3d M1 Carbine Rifle. Here is the reference picture I'm using:

Here is what I have so far:

As you can's very simple. However...especially around the butt of the rifle, I need those squared corners to be rounded.

Could somebody help me out here? I've tried to chamfer..that doesn't work at all. I try to convert to editable poly, then select the vertex points and move those around...that doesn't work. I really am clueless. Somebody help's really starting frustrate me...

you should put a wireframe here !
anyway ,assuming you're not using Meshsmooth or Turbosmooth , chamfer the edges (green one in the picture) add adges close to the chamfered one (red) apply the smoothing group (try different angles and see wich one will work )
