View Full Version : The display/lines effect at render time

08-09-2006, 09:39 AM
Hi all,

I really like the effect of the 'lines' option in the Display operator. (Namely visualizing a particle with a line, pointed at the direction the particle moves, and with a length corresponding to the particle's speed - essentially a speed vector). But how can I achieve this effect with the rendered image?

1. Use Shape>Facing and orient them to your camera
2. Have the Scale affected by speed

The linking of speed and scale is the problem, exactly :) I think it could be done with scripting, and it could be done with trails and motion blur, I will explore the opportunities.

Unless you need actual 3d particles, Brandons method would not require scripting.

If you want to script this, you can use the Pythagorean theorem to extract the length (or speed mulitiplier) from the ParticleSpeed vector and multiply that to your scale.

Cool, I found this one too. Will work ;)
