View Full Version : Help: Convert low-poly .3ds to high-poly

08 August 2006, 06:33 AM

I have a .3ds model which is low-poly and can't be used for animation. Kindly suggest me how to convert those .3ds low-poly models to high-poly models without recreating those models.

Very Urgent, kindly help me.

Hard to say without seeing the model. Just make sure you have enough geometry around the joints and areas where you want to manipulate. Typical places would be around the shoulders, the elbow, the knee, the hands and figers etc. The head needs a pretty extensive amount of detail as well, if you want to animate facial movements.

frostu, Thanks for your kind reply. Sorry, I was not clear.

Actually it is an machine part model exported to .3ds from Auto CAD. It is low poly (not smooth) while importing in 3ds max. Kindly suggest me how to convert it to high poly without recreating it, as I have lot of such small models has to be converted to high poly for an animation.

Note: model attached for your reference.
