View Full Version : Tree Creature, Sillynd (3D)

01 January 2003, 10:56 AM (

here are 2 new render images of my character, and the link to my demo reel.

01 January 2003, 10:58 AM
the other render image without the armor

01 January 2003, 11:46 AM
I really love the armour, and the character!!
Awesome work :applause:

I'm downloading your demo reel :P Gotta check that out!

01 January 2003, 11:49 AM
hey, thanks man, i'm glad you like my character, he doesn't look as nice in the demo, cause the new render images, i used something call HDRI that my friend just showed me how to use.
but ya i think you might need divx to waqtch my demo

01 January 2003, 11:49 AM
realistic !!:bounce: i like the skin texture but i think u can more detail the armor texture ! and MAYBE change the eyes:cool: .But this creatures is very cool !!

01 January 2003, 11:51 AM
ya the armor got wash out abit by the lighting, originally there were more scratches and dirt ,i'll do anoth close up render tomorrow. and yes the eyes suppose to have a glow on it .

01 January 2003, 01:29 PM
great work! :applause:

01 January 2003, 01:42 PM
thankyou, i just change the format at my link, so you dont need divx to wach it. so if it didn't work before try again now. i 'm planning to rerender my treeguy's rotations with the new lighting, so it looks more real, and maybe add more animation

01 January 2003, 02:19 PM
jesus .. great work .. nice pose to

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

01 January 2003, 02:22 PM
Now thats how armor is supposed to look. The textures in this model tell a story all by themselves.

01 January 2003, 02:44 PM
Bloody fantastic.

How did you do the intertwining branches? All geometry or was it textured and displacement mapped.

01 January 2003, 04:41 PM
wonderfull, love this model :applause:

01 January 2003, 07:05 PM
Are You planning putting him in some environment? He's great character, but desperately needs some place to live. White plane is not good for him...

I like the design of the armour, this face on the knee... nice touch, but metal looks bit plastic-like.

01 January 2003, 09:30 PM
Now this is really cool!
Doesn't look like it was 3d- more like a painting...
I wonder how you modeled that chest. Is it subdivision or mostly texture?
I'd greatly apreciate some wires!!!

Good work- just downloading your reel...

<edit:> Okay, I finished downloading and I must say you've got a good reel! Only problem might be, that it's really hard to read the contact screen - your mail adress is drowning in pixels :hmm:

01 January 2003, 10:11 PM
Great character, Silly! I really like your texture work too. I'll download your animation when I'm in work tomorrow. I'm on a crappy modem at home.

The only crit I have it that the loin-cloth thingy looks a little bit "out of place" on the render without the armour. It would probably look better without. However, it works well on the armoured version.

Nice :)

01 January 2003, 10:35 PM
the armor- ya I tried to make them look very beatup with the bump map,and the spec, so when lights shines one it you'll see tons of scratches.

the body and the chest, it is geomentry, i modeled every little branches but the are all one peice , and then i texture the wood pattern on and the shadow , thats why they look like they are going under and on top each otehre. and i think it looks like a painting style cause i hand paint all my textures. i'll post some wire frame after i render them out and some texture maps!

enviroment, in my demo reel i put him in a snow kinda plavce, so i might change it later or somehting, i dont have any ideas yet

the contact , ehhe i'll take a look at that , cause i do want people to see my name ehehhe i'll fix it! thanks!!!

01 January 2003, 10:52 PM
Really dig the character, he's very original and has great character  The texturing is also superb!! excellent. BTW what app?

Check the frontpage :) and downing the reel now!!

01 January 2003, 11:02 PM
 OMG, that demo reel is fantastic!

01 January 2003, 11:04 PM
thanks dude. ya i do like it , but there are still lots of things i cna improve ehhe

01 January 2003, 11:04 PM
Awesome work! :buttrock:

I'm downloading the demo reel now, %13 percent done, I love the way you've done the branches creeping along the ground and into the armour, very original and cool. I wish I had half your skill and inspiration :)

I remember seeing this as a WIP, it's come out great, keep up the good work!

01 January 2003, 11:12 PM
I haven't checked your demo reel yet, but that is a beautiful piece of work judging by the still!!!

The pose and armor(in the still) remind me of the scene from "The cable guy" when Jim Carrey, and Matt Broderick battle in that medievil restaurant, anyone know what I'm talking about? lol

01 January 2003, 11:18 PM

01 January 2003, 11:18 PM
truly a great peace of artwork

5 stars:applause:

01 January 2003, 11:19 PM
heh thanks. i'm trying to fix my demo so if anyone has anything to say, SPEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eheh

01 January 2003, 11:35 PM
Nice job. I'm curious to see what he looks like on a white background, or I should say a background other than black.

Good job nonetheless

01 January 2003, 11:39 PM
oh what app. i modeled, rigged in XSI 2.03 and texture using photoshop

01 January 2003, 12:04 AM
excellent work my friend. just dopwning the reel now

01 January 2003, 12:08 AM
nice model there. one of the better concepts ive seen. in the style of middle-earth that is. you should articpate or are you already joined the challenge.

if not you should. fits perfectly otherwise.
downing the demoreel. very very nice.

greets niels

01 January 2003, 12:10 AM
no i didnt know about the challenge!??!!

01 January 2003, 12:17 AM
you really should enter it, i think this concept as it is now really fits the challenges discription.

a new race for middle-earth. well fits perfectly right with al the nice armor and sofort.
maybey some corrections. more inperfict things like scratches and i think the head on the knee armor is a bit out of place but thats personal style i think.

well il see if you entered.

greets niels

01 January 2003, 12:18 AM
ya i think i'll enter it, i'll fix up the armors and stuf and mayban enviroment

01 January 2003, 12:25 AM
nice work! :applause: I really liked the reel.

01 January 2003, 12:26 AM

01 January 2003, 12:30 AM

erm bud I really think you should read the rules first, especially the nice big blue print on the bottom :D

01 January 2003, 01:16 AM
poono!! it's been a crazy year, and now the real challenge begins! any company would be crazy not to hire ya on the spot with the level of creativity and work you've been able to achieve in such a short time. definatly keep it up, and i'll catch ya on the flipside!

- oklahoma

01 January 2003, 01:20 AM
very nice, i dig your demoreel too! :applause:

01 January 2003, 02:02 AM
I loooooooooooooove it! It is amazing concept and interesting exercution! Well done! 5 stars! :)

01 January 2003, 03:16 AM
Wow. That is an awsome model reel. I love almost all the demo reels that I have seen from VFS. (I'm in term 1 at VFS right now. )

01 January 2003, 04:07 AM
Maybe it's the lighting, but i'm surprised no one has commented on the bend of the right leg yet. It looks pinched to me, like the calf is being pulled in too much.

And why is his left foot so big? Maybe due to lack of DOF, is it suppose to be sticking out closer to us by a lot?

01 January 2003, 06:00 AM
Could we see a close up of the characters skin or face, please!?

01 January 2003, 06:41 AM
the armor is great

01 January 2003, 06:58 AM
great job man...

your reel has a very artisic feel to it...the music is a perfect main concern is some of you traditional artwork is hard to see...also if you would like someone to contact you I suggest that you make your text much easier to read...also it is a good idea to post your contact info at the start as well so companies can just pop in your tape and get your info...

keep up the great work...overall i found the reel inspiring and will compare mine to it when it is ready to ship

01 January 2003, 07:05 AM
Cool character. The pose is great. Really dynamic. Adds alot of life! WhooHoo

01 January 2003, 07:58 AM
Man thats awesome!....u have learned a HELL so much....
thats a great model....All your 2d art skills...they are the big reason behind the great looks of that model.

just great work.....

01 January 2003, 08:09 AM
Maybe it's the lighting, but i'm surprised no one has commented on the bend of the right leg yet. It looks pinched to me, like the calf is being pulled in too much. - Neil

Well maybe so, but we have to remember, it IS a tree creature, so it doesn't necessarily matter so much about anatomical fluctuations. I see what you mean about the pinch, but again, maybe a tree creature's leg would bend like that! ;)

I'm quite interested to see a post of the textures.

01 January 2003, 08:14 AM
With and without armur is very very great character !!! :bounce:

01 January 2003, 08:58 AM

01 January 2003, 09:27 AM
nice work man..
renders lookin tastey, better then the old ones! :)
keep on rockin it!

01 January 2003, 09:44 AM
Hey man, check your pm box.

Awsome stuff, how about wires?

01 January 2003, 09:48 AM
Oh that's looking cool. I'm with everyone else on that :)

I think, if anything, the face-part of his legarmour is looking just a tiny tad lowrez. Or blurred, rather. Ah, idunno, just how I see it.

Saw your demoreel too, while the content was pretty nice, I gotta say I was ever so slightly bored. It's somewhat long and sometimes it felt like you were rotating around a model for the third time. Maybe I'm just an impatient bastard though.

But still, damn kickass idea with the branch-guy, and very very well executed. Damn tasty renders.

01 January 2003, 09:52 AM
here is a crappy shot of the wireframe

01 January 2003, 10:05 AM
hey! i really like your character... it reminds me a little bit of Ed from Iron Maiden... keep up good work!

01 January 2003, 10:39 AM
thanks, hehe i'm glad my model can inspire other people to draw! ehhe draw draw draw!!!

and my friend came up with a name for him, BURLOCHS
he said BURL is a type of tree so ya, what do you guys think?!?

01 January 2003, 10:41 AM
Burlochs sounds okay, but sounds a bit too similar to boll*cks.

Other than that though, it sounds okay. Maybe it's just my juvenile mind :)

01 January 2003, 10:42 AM
ehhe nay suggestion? i dont knowi know nothing about making up names! hehe

01 January 2003, 10:50 AM
How about Manuloch? [Mahn-oo-lok]

Derived from Manu National Park where you can find mummified trees.

Just a suggestion.

01 January 2003, 11:11 AM
would really like to see a HUUUGE snap of this cause everything so far is too small for my peepers :)

the armour is fantastic tho

01 January 2003, 11:12 AM

06 June 2003, 02:45 AM
He looks great. I would keep his armor on though, his skin will need much more attention.

06 June 2003, 12:13 AM

Its a new inspiring FPS game with an emotion driven Exciteing mutli-threaded Plot and a true society Mirroring Sci-fi Root. Its Called Crossfire:Alliances(c) 2002 Nemus Dev.

06 June 2003, 03:40 PM
Just watched your demo reel. The modeling looks very good. I think you need to work on the lighting alittle bit though. It was a bit too dark.Couldnt make out all of the detail.

06 June 2003, 09:57 PM
like your style of texture and modeling.. they work together well on the tree guy.. great job..

02 February 2005, 01:03 AM
I love a great character concept.

02 February 2005, 03:08 AM
