View Full Version : ♥Somni's Sketchbook♥

Hey guys, guess I'll post my intro here.

Name's Carys, I'm a 17-year-old :cheerleader:girl:cheerleader: (har diddley) hoping to someday work as a concept artist. I'm currently working on a project of my own--a graphic novel. I scribble little thoughts and ideas constantly (but I'll keep those to myself in order to A) not scare you away and B) keep me out of a mental hospital :er: ). Oh yes. Anatomy piccus are either referenced from others' sketches, photographs, people in real life, or done without reference... And yeah, they're all a bit stylized but I've had realism shoved down my throat for far too long--oooo, rebel. I'm mostly working on drawing bodies as I've focused on hands, feet, and faces for a long time.

Quick lil' update:

Welcome to CGTalk and to the Anatomy Forum! :) Lovely work here ~ always great to see more traditional work around, I think that's really needed. :)

Did you know that there is a character named Somni in the book by David Mitchell, 'Cloud Atlas'? It's a great book, Sonmi is a futuristic character, I'm wondering if that's where you take inspiration for the name. :)

Hi Rebecca, thanks for the welcome. :) Nope, "Somnilocus" is the name of my story. Somni being Latin for "dream" and locus for "place."

Thanks. :D

Haha, maybe someday. ;) I'll post some looser stuff later~

You're welcome, thanks for the explanation ~ you know, it's funny, the definition really makes sense in the context of that book, so now I feel a bit enlightened. :D

I would assume you're planning to apply to art school. :) A big thing I would recommend doing if you've not already done so is contacting the school to see what their requirements are (the best thing is to talk to a counselor in person if possible, or over the phone if not possible). A great way to show your work is through the CGPortfolio (, definitely check it out when you get the chance ~ just tons of amazing and inspiring stuff! :)

Looking forward to seeing more of your work! :)
