This is a quick sketch I did to get some ideas down on the paper and to have something work with.

Next step would be... color! Can't wait!

Here's an update..

I did a color sketch over the previous sketch... I'm not sure though that I like the city. So maybe I'll try to fix it next.

hmmm... to me this looks a little different perspective wise to your original sketch. keep workin' on it. I think you can improve on what you've got.

mybutterflyiris: I think you're right about the perspective. Maybe it's the buildings that are in different angle than the ones in the original sketch. I think the updated version is more like the original sketch... which is good I guess.

I made the scene a little more dramatic and did some other changes.

I think I want to have a closer look at the ruined city... which wasn't the case with original sketch. So I did a new color sketch just to get some ideas..

this sketch gives a better perspective, has good composition and potential, keep it up:thumbsup:

The most recent update. I put some photos, that I took, of rocks together to get some ground texture.

not a bad start, but your texture needs some scaling. Scene looks very small because of the rock in the middle - texture hints towards something like 2 meter rock in it's diameter instead of a huge 100 meter tall cliff. You might want to find some photos that have bigger scale to them

Started to work on the city and made the whole image a bit darker... and a little changes here and there.

Ranath: I'm not sure I want to change the ground texture.. I think the buildings should show the scale well enough. Thanks for the input though.

...update. Added some more details.

Hey your work looks great!but I think the big buildings make the composition smaller. Good luck!!

GonzaloGolpe: Thanks.

I somehow managed to destroy the psd file I was working on so some stuff got deleted. Luckily I had recent backup so no major losses.

Still working on the mood of the image to get it right.. I think I want something between this and the previous update. Other than that, I think I'm almost done. Few fixes here and there and it should be ready in time.

I'm done. This is the final image.

This is the first full matte painting I've ever made. So I'm glad I managed to finish this - and in time. There are a few things I'd like to change but overally I'm pretty happy with the end result.

..for a week at least.

edit: Did some minor changes to the image.
