AWESOME!!!!!! :D

btw lildragon, can't you create a small history of plugged stuff? 'cuz I've missed a few since school :/

It would be awesome just to have 4 or 5 past plugged items on a history page or something..

Thanks! I've read about the process, but it was awesome to see a video demonstrating it.

That is the Giant Studios Mocap system.

They make some amazing capture and editing software.

As good as it is though you still need great character mappers,
motion editors and animators to get that gray shaded puppet to live and breath. Other wise even a great actor being captured can have his motion destroyed, filtered down to spliney mush motion.

Im a total fanatic about these movies, so many many thanks for
keeping us all updated on what is going on.

01-17-2003, 09:47 PM
Oh god these sadistic people with their streaming mov's :annoyed:
It's so great to first wait million years for a movie to load in a popup window, without having anykind of clue what speed it's coming, how big the file is and if the file is even loading. Then hopefully IE crashes just before it's done so you have to start it over again... and if you do get to see the movie actually, there's no way to save it, ofcourse.

... ok, I make an exception here, the video seems to actually load, and it's now downloaded 1/3th of it... but like those trailers in, those are just plain useless unless you got one damn fast connection or good luck.

(How bad would it be to give a direct link to download?)

01-17-2003, 09:49 PM
this is gr8 :bounce: :buttrock:
thank you for the link

01-17-2003, 10:06 PM
Yeah, I agree WT, I hate streaming movs :annoyed:
I wish that they would have a little more consideration for us people with nasty slow dialups

01-17-2003, 10:23 PM
My god, those side by side shots of Andy and Gollum are Astonishing... absolutly perfect.

Anyone know how to save the .mov once it's done DLing, or do I need Quicktime Pro?

01-17-2003, 10:35 PM
thanks lildragon for the find.

Very motivational and informative.

I've seen the making and it really inspired me.

After the mov dl, right click on the bottom arrow and save as source

You have to wait until the mov is completely dl ... it does not have to finish playing but it has to be finished dl ... just trim it to the end if you do not want to watch the whole thing and save it

01-17-2003, 11:58 PM
Rad! I can't wait to watch it. I didn't realise Elijah Wood knew anything about Maya!?! Tha guy's so talented and big eyed!

01-18-2003, 12:15 AM
You have received the CGTalk choice..... heheh just kidding ;)

Glad you guys liked the link, I watched it like 10 times already! Andy really brought gollum to life...

01-18-2003, 03:26 AM
hey guys I really would like to watch this vid but the streaming window dosn't seam to want to work for me at all i have the quicktime 6 player installed and such but when i try to open the link with IE i get the 320 window but the quicktime applet (right term?) dosn't display in it. I have tried using another browser as well (Opera my perfrered browser) but all i get is a big button where the apllet should be direction me to "click" this leads me to the quicktime dl site which i was just at when all it says i need is a plug in

01-18-2003, 04:57 AM
thank you kind sir..

01-18-2003, 05:51 AM
I can't seem to get into it either. Gotta get whatever I'm missing.

Interesting. Quite alot of cameras for the motion cap :D

01-18-2003, 03:35 PM
I hates quicktime... it's tricksy and false...

and I don't have a sound card on this computer, which means i have to jump through hoops to transfer any streaming movie to the other comp and listen to it...

I'm not sure which one of these great featurettes was better though... Gollum being brought to life or Carrie Thiel dancing around with various weapons...

01-18-2003, 09:44 PM
so badly want to see this vid
anyone kind enough to go looky look in temp internet files and share it to the comunity ? :)

01-18-2003, 10:50 PM
For all you dialup'ers or otherwise bandwidth limited, people with download managers or who simply have problems with streaming videos... a direct link:
(11MB's by the way)

Damn I'm good :buttrock:

(Edit: The URL's so damn long that I can't make a direct link, and you propably have to copy it in pieces... but hey, a few clicks and "ctrl+c/v"'s here and there ;))

01-18-2003, 11:41 PM
Thanx for the direct link - much appreciated :)

01-19-2003, 01:22 AM
Thanks for posting the link to the "Bringing Gollum to life" movie. Some time ago I was asking some people about who made the Gollum character. This is the best possible answer to my thread.
