hi all, my first post, and here's the storyboard for the idea. It's about a character walking in a cave with rows of empty armor on the side. He was surprised by a mice running across, and felt onto an armor set. Then the helmet from the armor set fell on his head, covering his eyes. He then nervously swing his sword around as if he's under attack, and later realized that there's noone there. it'll be 3d, but i'm still undecide about which app to use yet. I'll either use max or mayaPLE. Comments welcome.

hopefully i upload the gif correctly so everyone can see.

here's an update of my animation at:

i'm still trying to block out the scene to figure out if i can fit all those actions in 15seconds. Also trying to get an idea of how many more different poses i'll need, and all those technical issues that came up. I still don't really know how to set up the character to pick up an object, so i guess for now i'll have the sword be a child of the right hand, and keyframe the left hand that's also holding the sword. And for the helmet, for now i'm thinking of making copies of them and turn them on and off at different times, hope that'll do the trick.

Hopefully i can find some time to work on it some more this week. Comments welcome!!

finally got some time to work on this again, here's the latest update:

lots of changes happened as i pick up this project after not touching it for a couple weeks. First of all, i realized that i only had 10 days or so left when i finally have time to work on it again, so i decided to revisit the storyboard and see what i can cut. The first thing i cut out is the mice. Then i changed the story a bit, still keeping the 2 rows of armor but now it'll be those armor trying to scare the character. Then i realized that i really don't like the watermark from mayaPLE, so i spent 2 days rigging up a character in max. Also, since we can use blend shape this time around, i added eyes and mouth to the character to give him more emotion. Then i acted out those actions and recorded them with a digital camera, and using those as reference i created a simple pencil test:

i tried to pay more attentions on how the weight shift from one side to the other, and this pencil test really helped me a lot as i'm blocking out/animating now. i still have almost 3 days left, hopefully i can get this done.

comments welcome

I think it's coming along nicely.

Maybe his pause goes on too long, he could start coming out of it as early as frame 110.

Keep going, 3 more days! I hope I finish mine.
