Well, my first steps. The second image is the reference. A photo that I took yesterday on the beach.:)
I imagine the splendor of the city and the way that the water conquers the hole space. On the foreground, it will be several buildings and on the background the nerve centre of Atlantis.The foreground buildings will be smaller to increase the depth and greatness of the centre.

Hey Gonzalo , this is starting to look good :D But remember that the judges will be looking your concept sketched and coloring that you do before starting the final matte, so I think it would be a good idea for you to add those to your thread :D

Well, instead of editing my post, Ill put here the development, starting over:)


Here is my proposal.

The first pencil-pen sketch:

The photographic element which I use is above, and I thought on making the city, buildings, etc using the hand, 2D technique, with photoshop brushes (I forgot to say that in my first post :).

An now, the process, part 2:

Good start, but i think this image need to foreground detail , or particles and more darkness in deep

this is getting very photoreal if we talk about the mood, but for composition I agree with Dim you need some foreground elements , this will help you with sense of scale and depth, bubbles, fishes, fooliage, rocks all that elements will definitly help

Yours is awsome. I realy like the mass scale that is visible! I almost want to see a small family of Blue Whales swimming over the city or something. and soft shadows casting down on the ground.

So it is much better. Except for that I think it is necessary to make a line of horizon of more precise.
probably hardly designated silhouette of mountains in the distance .
Good luck ! And still. As walls are located in several radiuses there there should be traces from building buildings. What that regular structures as in satellite photos of real ruins. Traces of old buildings are always visible from height, even if they and entirely under the ground

Here its a little update. Im adding new structures. Even though I want to show a ruin city, destroyed by the time and sea, agree with you that Id must put bigger structures =) Ill put more and several stuff more too =):

I think we should see the architecture of Atlantis better.The structures look so small to me for now.But you have great underwater feeling there.The depth is great too:thumbsup:

i like the depth and the sea bed a lot. I would alter perhaps a little the spikeness of the mountains...But that's personal taste. Keep it up!

This is really coming along, but I still think it lacks some oomph. I think its just too big. Theres not really anything for the eye to fix on and say wow, and then take in all the rest of the content from there. That may be what your trying to acomplish, but like i said. Its lacking the oomph :).

You're the pro here. But my suggestion would be to have more content on the bottom left (not as large as the center, but something more than a village) and if you raise the elevation a little that will make the buildings even bigger, without you taking away from the focus on the larger buildings in the center. Then to balance it out maybe have a ship on the right at a higher elevation so its bigger.

Just a thought :) great work though. love the rework of the colors

Well, I made some changes on the center temple, so I add a huge weird sculpture cause I imagine Atlantis as a strange civilization. Ill continue to add more things, end is near... =)

look damn good! But watch out for them shadows. At the left part of the scene they go from left up corner to the low right, but at the right part of the scene the do other direction )) Or maybe i missed your point here?

Well, the final image. Here it is:

I imagined the city of Atlantis like a very ancient one. Slow erosion are destroying the old splendor of Atlantis and now, a research community has discovered the misterious city:)

Was watching a doco on my flight home from London about Alantis. It is STRONGLY believed that the city would contain pyramids, a mix between the Aztec and Eypt pyramids. Don't know if this is very helpfull, but I thought maybe a few aztec looking buildings would add some "historical" accuracy to your matte.

yeah, well I was thinking on several characteristics of different civilizations. But, in the end, I prefered to show ruins instead of showing constructions which remained a civilization in particular. Anyway, thanks for stopping in my work and for your advices:thumbsup:

Nice work, you can use some colours variations in search lights, rather than white lights.
