Hi!Ill start to put some images of my idea as soon as I can.:) Good luck to everybody!!

07-08-2006, 09:31 PM
welcome gonzalo , we're looking forward to see your entry ! buena suerte !

07-09-2006, 12:00 PM
jamesvfx: muchas gracias, compaero!:)

Well, my first steps. The second image is the reference. A photo that I took yesterday on the beach.:)
I imagine the splendor of the city and the way that the water conquers the hole space. On the foreground, it will be several buildings and on the background the nerve centre of Atlantis. The foreground buildings will be smaller to increase the depth and greatness of the centre.
More later!:bounce:

Hey Gonzalo , this is starting to look good :D But remember that the judges will be looking your concept sketched and coloring that you do before starting the final matte, so I think it would be a good idea for you to add those to your thread :D

07-09-2006, 06:02 PM
Good luck Zalo! I look foward to your one :)

07-10-2006, 02:51 PM
Matellis: OOOOpss!!!haha thanks for your advice. Ill edit my message and put the sketches. Thanks!!

rawwad: :scream:

07-10-2006, 02:57 PM
Well, instead of editing my post, Ill put here the development, starting over:)

Here is my proposal.

The first pencil-pen sketch:
Color sketch:
The photographic element which I use is above, and I thought on making the city, buildings, etc using the hand, 2D technique, with photoshop brushes (I forgot to say that in my first post :).

An now, the process, part 2:
Hope everythings right, now:thumbsup:

07-10-2006, 03:35 PM
Heya Zalo,

Great to see you in this Challenge! Best of luck to you!

Cheers, :)

07-10-2006, 05:32 PM
Hola Rebecca!!:wavey: Thanks so much!!Im very glad. Back here into another challenge :)

I think Zidane realized himself about that thing...too late but...:)

07-11-2006, 06:56 PM
Well, adding some parts of the big city, making the composition with a look like erosion, a little bit of it:) :

07-11-2006, 07:45 PM
starting out nice, good luck to you man!

07-12-2006, 07:09 AM
Good start, but i think this image need to foreground detail , or particles and more darkness in deep

07-12-2006, 07:16 AM
this is getting very photoreal if we talk about the mood, but for composition I agree with Dim you need some foreground elements , this will help you with sense of scale and depth, bubbles, fishes, fooliage, rocks all that elements will definitly help

07-12-2006, 07:19 AM
Yours is awsome. I realy like the mass scale that is visible! I almost want to see a small family of Blue Whales swimming over the city or something. and soft shadows casting down on the ground.

cool image. :)

07-12-2006, 10:05 AM
Ranath: thanks!I wish the same to you :)

DiM: good advice!!

jamesvfx: thanks!yeah, I was thinking about that fact. Putting some new elements to increase the depth, cliffs, etc:)

CodeNothing: yeah! Ill put some big fishes there:scream: thanks man!

07-12-2006, 12:13 PM
Another update, putting some cliffs, whales, etc of course, blu whales Adam:scream: :

07-13-2006, 06:05 AM
So it is much better. Except for that I think it is necessary to make a line of horizon of more precise.
probably hardly designated silhouette of mountains in the distance .
Good luck ! And still. As walls are located in several radiuses there there should be traces from building buildings. What that regular structures as in satellite photos of real ruins. Traces of old buildings are always visible from height, even if they and entirely under the ground
Delta of Nil Egipet from
Good luck !

07-13-2006, 04:26 PM
Thanks so much for the advice again Dim, and for this sample image:thumbsup: It helps me a lot.

07-13-2006, 04:41 PM
Is always glad to help. I wait for continuation

07-13-2006, 06:22 PM
it is coming a lot great, maybe some more bigger structures? tower maybe? something that shows the greatness of that civilization

07-13-2006, 09:33 PM
A very interesting entry. I agree with james, you should add some massive structures .

07-13-2006, 10:01 PM
jamesvfx: wise advice =)

aksu: youre wise too:D

Here its a little update. Im adding new structures. Even though I want to show a ruin city, destroyed by the time and sea, agree with you that Id must put bigger structures =) Ill put more and several stuff more too =):

07-14-2006, 12:50 PM
this is developing very well, alot of ruins/architectures would add to the power of the city:thumbsup:

07-14-2006, 03:50 PM
Really good start but, like everyone is mentioning some stronger architecture might sell it some more. I know this is just the begining stages though. Good work ~

07-14-2006, 06:23 PM
SamsonsReaper: ok,thanks, Jack!:D

A small update, with another mountain and stuff on the background. Ill continue to draw new ruin structures and etc =):

07-14-2006, 09:01 PM
This one is looking very promising! keep up the good work ! :D

07-19-2006, 08:11 AM
I think we should see the architecture of Atlantis better. The structures look so small to me for now.But you have great underwater feeling there. The depth is great too:thumbsup:

07-19-2006, 05:07 PM
Matellis: thanks!glad you like it:thumbsup:

Velarion: thanks for your advice, man:)

Another update. When I finish the ruins,I was experimenting and Ill put more underwater atmosphere, with some layers more and stuff like that =):

07-19-2006, 10:02 PM
I agree that you have a great depth and great underwater feel.
I can't wait to see more updates.

07-20-2006, 09:00 AM
looks pretty nice so far :)

SOE digital
07-20-2006, 09:03 AM
You've certainly sold the feeling of deep down in the ocean.

07-20-2006, 09:23 AM
i like the depth and the sea bed a lot. I would alter perhaps a little the spikeness of the mountains...But that's personal taste. Keep it up!

07-20-2006, 09:47 PM
vshen: thanks for your words =)

Ranath: glad you like it:thumbsup:

SOE digital: thanks! =)=)

anim_ziggy: thanks for the advice, Ill make some takes:thumbsup:

And here its another take more. I added new layers with different properties to increase the deep blue feeling. Hope you like it and thanks again for your words/advices:wise:

07-21-2006, 10:39 PM
A little update more =) drawing some foreground mountains and ruins over there:

07-22-2006, 12:10 PM
Now Im adding some machines, a research submarine team watching the ruins of the ancient city =)Ill continue to add some submarines more and ruins:

07-22-2006, 03:24 PM
This is really coming along, but I still think it lacks some oomph. I think its just too big. Theres not really anything for the eye to fix on and say wow, and then take in all the rest of the content from there. That may be what your trying to acomplish, but like i said. Its lacking the oomph :).

You're the pro here. But my suggestion would be to have more content on the bottom left (not as large as the center, but something more than a village) and if you raise the elevation a little that will make the buildings even bigger, without you taking away from the focus on the larger buildings in the center. Then to balance it out maybe have a ship on the right at a higher elevation so its bigger.

Just a thought :) great work though. love the rework of the colors

07-23-2006, 12:35 AM
Mobious, wonderful advices:thumbsup: I thought on putting a ship on the right too, hahah.

Well, I made some changes on the center temple, so I add a huge weird sculpture cause I imagine Atlantis as a strange civilization. Ill continue to add more things, end is near... =)

07-23-2006, 10:46 AM
Another step more, Im adding more.. deep submarines, (dont know the exact term in english about the submarines which diving into the deep blue, hehe, sorry) looking at the huge ruin sculpture of the center of the composition. And more ruins over there:

07-24-2006, 10:39 AM
look damn good! But watch out for them shadows. At the left part of the scene they go from left up corner to the low right, but at the right part of the scene the do other direction )) Or maybe i missed your point here?

07-24-2006, 11:27 AM
Hey, thanks for point this fact out:thumbsup: Its like the shadows of the images when Armstrong went to the moon haha:D Ill change some shadows =)

07-24-2006, 11:41 AM
Well, Im giving the final touches. The end is near...:D

07-24-2006, 04:11 PM
Changing some values to increase the feeling of underwater and lights of the submarines:

07-24-2006, 10:38 PM
Well, the final image. Here it is:

I imagined the city of Atlantis like a very ancient one. Slow erosion are destroying the old splendor of Atlantis and now, a research community has discovered the misterious city:)

07-24-2006, 10:43 PM
Thanks for watching the progress of my work and a very special thanks for the great advices:

SOE digital

You guys are great!Good luck to you too:thumbsup:

07-25-2006, 01:08 AM

Wow, a fantastic finish, I wish you the best of luck!

Such a different type of work for you, it's very cool to see the diversity of your talent. :)

Was watching a doco on my flight home from London about Alantis. It is STRONGLY believed that the city would contain pyramids, a mix between the Aztec and Eypt pyramids. Don't know if this is very helpfull, but I thought maybe a few aztec looking buildings would add some "historical" accuracy to your matte.
Looking sweet.

07-25-2006, 04:51 AM
Gonzalo good to see you have finished , really great work here , good sense of scale and sweet detail! now have a beer and relax :D

07-25-2006, 06:17 AM

Congrates and good luck in the contest!

07-26-2006, 07:54 PM
thanks man

thanks so much! yep, I like to experiment and discover new ways to express oneself. A big kiss for you!:D

SOE digital:
yeah, well I was thinking on several characteristics of different civilizations. But, in the end, I prefered to show ruins instead of showing constructions which remained a civilization in particular. Anyway, thanks for stopping in my work and for your advices:thumbsup:

hehe I invite you to a beer at sunset:thumbsup:

and good luck to you too! =)

hehehe, thanks!

And glad you like it!thanks! =)

08-04-2006, 10:19 PM
very nice finish. good luck to you.

08-05-2006, 10:28 AM
Really nice entry... the lights look good and it looks like an underwater scene. Great work and good luck in the contest.

08-05-2006, 06:58 PM
Nice work, you can use some colours variations in search lights, rather than white lights.

08-06-2006, 12:20 AM
Inlakechh: thanks! and I wish the same to you ;)

L-iNC: Thanks so much for your words! =)

chinnha: thanks! well, I chose those lights to make a more realistic vision of research submarines lights. Good luck to you!
