Hey all,

This is my first post in the Sketch of the week so I will tell you a bit about myself . I have done several of the 3d challenges here but I am very interested in doing one of the 2d challenges but I need to learn how to complete a large digital painting on the computer. I really don't know how to set up and complete from concept to final painting. So , I thought this would be a good place to start.

Here is my warhorse , I got a reference pic off the net and then sketched it out in black and white very quickly. I then added a layer on top of my first blocked out sketch and then tried to fine tune the shape of the horse . I then lastly added the shading and finer details to the horse. I know the image is a little rigid in style but I tend to try and paint as realistic as I can .

I used Corel photopaint and I stopped at 30 minutes.

Here is my image

Some cool images here, great job on them.

May-Lea, it would look great with armour
Tema, cool idea , I think of the P51 mustang.
Everlite, Cool image.
Silverwyvern, Nice image and Mood
Danielh68, Awesome job .
Brittany , Nice stylistic image.

Hey cheers everyone for your kind comments, this is the first time i've given one of these ago. My favorite so far is Pipichu, Very abstract but nice, almost like a cave painting :-)

Cheers again - Dave.

Friedbrain - Fantastic perspective, love the line work
pipichu - great style

7 minute sketch then 20 minutes in Photoshop. Background could use work.

Well, it started out as a horse, then it evolved some bits of the human race...this took me about 30 min...muscle issues...I think I will continue for a bit and see where it goes...
tis been a while!

07-12-2006, 01:43 AM
Very nice one winterhart! I love centaurs :). Very nice anatomy.I had another shot at the topic: 30min, Photoshop + tablet.

Can't seem to manage to get the results I want with my tiny tablet. The pic I had in mind was much nicer. But it's always the case so :)

07-13-2006, 02:42 AM
Well, I couldn't pass up a topic like this one, so I just did a little head study... not happy with it really, I wanted to turn out more sinister and instead the horse kind of looks innocent and sweet.... oh well.
30 min mark:
another 45:

This is going to be hard to choose a winner. I like Brittany, SuperMuscle, and Daniel's styles. I like the solid silhouette of elgrozni's piece. Silverwyvern's horse's simple gesture is very emotional. May-lea's dying horse is emotional too. FiYog and pipichu just cracked me up! Tema's stark exposition of the modern warhorse is a powerful statement. winterhart's dynamic character is fantastic and one of my favorites. And the remaining pieces are great interpretations of the topic. Geez people, what quality work and a great response to the topic!
