Another portfolio piece from me, slight tickle with Photoshop to add a little noise/blur...

01 January 2003, 12:06 PM
This is a very nice image!! What inspired it?

01 January 2003, 12:07 PM
hey this is really great!!! love her stance but the face just doesnt look right, maybe theres just not enough definition i dunno, great work tho

what software?

01 January 2003, 12:17 PM
Looks excellent! The only thing I see that's out of place to me is her fingers. I don't know, but they look TOO smooth. But I could be wrong.

01 January 2003, 12:35 PM
wow, this is awesome! How did you make the hair? textured polys?

01 January 2003, 12:38 PM
:buttrock: Wow, that's all I can say.... wow

01 January 2003, 04:27 PM
Thats really really coooool

01 January 2003, 04:38 PM
Awesome work, I wasn't really in2 u're last gal, but then I'm not in2 the gothic vibe, but this is much more up my street... no (*)'s yet ?!?!?! well here u go and I don't give (*)'s...

01 January 2003, 04:57 PM
Thanks for the comments guys. The fingers could maybe use a little more work for the fairly extreme position, but I got to the stage where I thought that the extra effort wouldn't be worth it - spent too long on it already :). Software is LightWave, hair using Sasquatch (LightWave hair/fur plugin).

Inspiration? I've been listening to Noodles lately (the band not the food substance :) ) so this image sort of evolved fom an earlier abandoned WIP you can see here;

It's not supposed to be a portrait, I just felt like doing somethig a little different from the usual SciFi/Fantasy CGI girls - I like those too though.

01 January 2003, 05:01 PM
wow this pic looks almost perfect in terms of realism ..........

01 January 2003, 05:08 PM
Love it !:applause:

nice idea, v.well executed.

B major, huh?

01 January 2003, 05:23 PM
Heh, Psil; I'm glad you noticed that it's a real chord position. I definitely wanted her to look like she could actually play, not just pose with the guitar...

01 January 2003, 05:38 PM
can we see a wire ??

great work !!!:bounce:

01 January 2003, 06:09 PM
I love it! totally amazing stuff! Well done!!!:scream:

01 January 2003, 06:22 PM
:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :buttrock: :xtreme: :airguitar you got skills! very nice work....

01 January 2003, 06:36 PM
Well, gotta say it's really great ! nothing to crit, goood work:applause:

01 January 2003, 06:43 PM
I really can't find anything wrong with the face or the fingers.
I looks pretty flawless to me

good work.

01 January 2003, 07:08 PM
Wireframe here. It's all subdiv apart from the "Marshall" logo, the girls eyeballs and the hair. The hair is made from 2-point poly chains that act as guides for the hair plugin, they're normally set to not render.

01 January 2003, 07:42 PM
Great great model. Especially like the shoes. I don't see too many well modeled shoes. Great work.

01 January 2003, 08:07 PM
Nice scene! Did you know I have the exact same marshall amplifier? I guess you didn't... but I do :hmm:

Very nice and clean models!

01 January 2003, 08:18 PM
that marshal amp owns.. her face looks like maybe she just farted and she's a bit ashamed tho...

01 January 2003, 08:30 PM
FeRdI; your neighbours must love you :).

jadedchron; I'm really glad you planted that "farted" idea in peoples minds. Cheers mate :).

01 January 2003, 08:31 PM
Very nice :applause:

The low face is very clean and light

i don't read other comments, maybe i will ask a second time.
Do you want to animate her ?

01 January 2003, 08:32 PM
Geeez, that's just amazing work!

The face is great and I think the expression is just perfect.

If there were anything to pick at, the only thing I can see is that the loop of wire coming off of the guitar and back up to her hip seems to have an odd, squarish bend to it. I guess it could look like that if there were kinks in the line, but it might look better with a smoothly flowing droop.

Love your work. Please share more!

Nice image. Shouldn't the title actually be "A girl and her guitar", or was the title used to attract people to the thread :D

Anyway I think you got talent :buttrock:

01 January 2003, 09:47 PM
zeb; I'm not planning to animate her, I'd rather make something new.

Rukuwa; to answer your questions; No and Yes respectively :).

01 January 2003, 12:58 AM

I remember the cowgirl outfit, you had her wearing at one time.

02 February 2003, 03:55 AM
interesting pose there. I'm liking it alot. I don't see many problems with the model whatsoever..

02 February 2003, 04:35 AM
Nice. She looks almost real! I can almost hear the music! Damn where are my earplugs. I mean, its Not like we need another Japanese girl "musician".

Honestly, good job on that piece!

02 February 2003, 04:43 AM
Hey, that's really good :) what I liked the most, is the fact that you made her hand do a chord :)

I really like the wire frame render. It reminds me of Otomos work somehow....from that Hippo book. Looks like you got the finger placement right on the strings. :applause:

02 February 2003, 07:46 AM

02 February 2003, 10:55 AM
I'm very impressed!

Can you give some information how you did the shading of the skin?

02 February 2003, 11:28 AM
Holy crap!
I also saw the cowgirl one. Really nicely done!

02 February 2003, 01:10 PM
Great work as usual Terry

Nice face she's got there!!

02 February 2003, 01:57 PM
Very nice =), just one thing, but you porbably already know this, but she looks almost to perfect to be real, but on the other hand she probably uses a lot of makeup =).

I like it even more because I've also got an exact coppy of that Marshall exact next to me =)

02 February 2003, 02:59 PM
Cheers Bliz.

qchan: The skin is procedural + image maps. Everybody knows about "Sub Surface Scattering" by now, and the effect it has on human skin. My procedural texture attempts to emulate the effect.

Basically, it makes the skin redder and more luminus as the surface curves away fron the camera. I also use a small crumple texture on the spec and bump channels to add slight roughness to the surface.

In LW terms;

Colour: Camera Incidence angle gradient that is dark reddish flesh at the edges to light flesh. + Dark red fBm noise (very subtle) with incidence angle alpha (falloff at edges) for viens. + Image maps

Luminosity: Camera Incidence angle gradient that applies stronger luminosity at the edges falling off to the centre.

Spec and Bump: very small (500 um) crumple to break up the surface + Image maps.

Also I have a 30% ambient (yes 30!) with a strong orange tint to warm up the shaded areas.

02 February 2003, 03:00 PM
man, i just love how you did the strat.

(i see she's got humbucking pickups. :D)

(and why not fender amps? :) )

02 February 2003, 04:48 PM
Looks excellent!but i feel her right arm is too strong .

02 February 2003, 05:40 PM
great work. The modeling is very clean. Something seems to be lacking from her face, but everything looks great!

02 February 2003, 06:48 PM

02 February 2003, 09:40 PM
what is it with the stereotypical small asian eyes?? really... while some still do have that kinda eyes, i hardly see that many of them anymore, and the eyes doesn't go with the nose... unless she had a nose job done...

Very nice~

06 June 2004, 01:21 PM
what was it you used ?

06 June 2004, 01:56 PM
he used Lightwave for the entire thing and Pshop for textures of course.....

06 June 2004, 01:06 PM
Eye is not!

06 June 2004, 04:06 PM
Love the perspective and the feeling that this image gives. I'd have to agree with most of the posters regarding this however... she looks somewhat plastic and not realistic, but this may have been your intention. Besides that only critique, I think it's a great piece!

07 July 2004, 01:15 AM
her face is especially

07 July 2005, 11:26 AM
