Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
You can post an entry at anytime for the topic presented on this thead BEFORE the voting thread for THE WEEK has been posted.
The artist also has to post total length of time it took and program used.
Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
The topics will be picked at random from the list on the TOPICS thread >>LINK<< (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php/?t=145003)
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them).

Thanks for the credit but this was actually Wiggin (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=3667791&postcount=1555)'s idea and me and Jimi were going on about it.

ok, I know this is cheating, but I didn't go over the time limit <hee hee>....this is actually my sketch from last time we did this topic...the "best sketch" topic brought this one back to mind.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i298/silverwyverncdm/imagfriend.jpgWell now. Here's my attempt. I used to do all my work in painter classic on a 4 x 5 wacom 2. Now I suddenly have Painter IX.5 and an intuos 3, 6 x 8. My stroke is off, and all the features frighten me ;) I'm trying to figure things out. Glad to be joining in again though. :)

Silverwyvern - beautiful, looks like your getting the hang of it.
My imaginary friend used to get me in sooo much trouble
Photoshop, 35 min (30min w/o floor relection)

Here's my try at this, I'm excited to try more of these. Photoshop 30 min. Wacom Tablethttp://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j47/DavidJH/e90cf6aa.jpg

Wacom + photoshop : 30 min

Here's mine. He always was intoxicated and gave me a lot of problems when i was a kid.
illustrator/mouse 30 min

Great stuff guys...
I thought what happens to all those imaginary friends when they are no longer needed/wanted (apart from going to Fosters Home :)) why they'd sign on the dole...
35 min in Photoshop... it was probably just over 30 but i thought I better round up, last few minutes were just touch ups and layer tweaks.

haha i like the third one from the left. ...or is it from the right. i like the "aliens" one. everybody's looks cool
my idea came from work. i work at a marina and people come in there all the time to get fishing stuff... so here it is.

Title: Imaginary Friends
App: Corel Painter IX
Tools: Digital Watercolor, Vine Charcoal, 2b Pencil, Blender Stump
Time: A hair over 30 minutes, on the text, I had a painter crash tho (luckily after a save)
Straight guys don't want to be your friend -- sorry.
06 June 2006, 04:17 AM
30 minutes, but painfully aware of it.
06 June 2006, 04:17 AM
That's awesome malcon! :D
06 June 2006, 05:51 AM
Cool stuff. I particularly like the piece by malcon and kimded but everything I see here on cgtalk inspires me.
Here's mine. 15 minutes graphite and stick charcoal.
Here is a quick color layer slapped on. Add 25 minutes ...
06 June 2006, 06:25 AM
sorry, went over by 10mins
poor wee guy - reminds me of back when I was a little freak.

Nice to see some familiar faces still at it!
I never had an imaginary friend, but I'm pretty sure he would've been blue - and wearing dungarees.
Around 20-25 min.

I never had an imaginary friend but I would have traded my older brother for one .. 30 minutes in AliasStudio. Actually I wanted to draw a parrot talking to his mirror image but it is too complicated for me to draw the cage with the bird in that short period of time ...
06 June 2006, 11:30 AM
haha cariolat, I really like your concept the most thus far... I think it's better than a parrot, because most wouldn't have thought of it. Good one
06 June 2006, 11:32 AM
http://www.triskell-productions.com/CGtalk/imaginary%20friend.jpgOk, I might have done it in 35 minute instead of 30. I'm not proud of it, I know I can do much better but I messed up my brush choice and easily lost 5 minutes because of it...
All that to say that if I had an imaginary friend, he'd look a lot like a male me. He'd be the kind of friend that barely ever agrees with you, bothers you sometimes, but also cheers you up when you're sad and helps you when you're stuck. Maybe he's be the shade of the brother I never had. Sorry the sketch sucks so bad though, really.

Painter and a little photoshop.
first try since there is a time limit on the sketches. quite challenging :)
06 June 2006, 04:20 PM
About 32 minutes in Art Rage 2.0.
06 June 2006, 09:02 PM
open canvas 1.1
07 July 2006, 07:42 PM
after about 20 mins sketching I looked at the title one more time and thought "oh it says 'friends', these don't look like friends.." but I decided to finish it anyway
imagine the little boy saying "muuuum they're making fun of me again"
07 July 2006, 03:51 PM
Updated it a little. Still bleaagh.
07 July 2006, 12:41 AM
I went waaaay over the time limit. 10 minute pencil and paper drawing and then about 40 minutes in Photoshop.
