I'm really starting to get interested in low poly skinning and modelling, especially after looking at some of your work! (very inspiring.) Here's my second attempt. Thoughts? It's around 610 count. I kow the "scaly" texture is a bit bizarre... :) The texture map is 256x512, skinned with chili and texported

thats lookin cool,,,
in my opinion i think u should change the coulour of the engine glow and improve the texture on it to make it look more jet like,, and maby the orange at the front is 2 orange it looks slightly odd,, as it seems a bit fake u could add glow maybe,, or make the coulour more subtle,,,, just my thoughts,:)

Dirt! Needs more dirt and grunge! :) Like some nice black streaky areas near the rear engine exhaust and just general dirt and grunge throughout the whole map. Where the seams meet up on the metal plates on the ship needs more dirt and contrast.
Also, the "scale" pattern as you call it - if you look on your renders - the ship's texture looks pretty crisp and then that scale pattern looks blurry and low res. Like the resolutions of those areas don't match up. Perhaps you are giving a very small amount of your UV map space to that portion of the ship?
And I agree about the orange "thingies" on front. The color doesn't seem right to me either.
But this is a great start and the model itself looks good. You just need to grunge up the map so it does not look so "clean," IMHO.
