My rather wistful attempt at matte painting using Adobe Photoshop CS and my humble Logitech mouse. The snowfall (Download the attached Quicktime Video Link) was added (using particle playground) in Adobe After Effects 6.0. I've attached the settings used for the Particles. The Particle Layer Mode is set to Soft Light. ( (

Download the Quicktime Mov.

hi shrinkingviolet , well it's a nice aproach to a final matte painting, , but do not trut in plug ins , you don't have complete ontrol over them , first of all, I would say you need some photo reference before doing any kind of matte paintings.
try to respect the original exposure of the photo so you don't burn your image with a lot of whites , making details desapear, paint with shadows and light, to define shapes and detail, if you see the low part of the image , it is completly white no details at all, , it is a good start,
keep improving your work and you will learn to train the eye

Merz : Thank You, but I think as Jaime pointed out. There is lotsa stuph still left to be done on this...thanx.

Jamie : Thank You for the crit. I never really intended to use the particles, but as a my compositer at work taught me how to add it in AE I decided to try my hand at it. I'll keep in mind all the pointer you've told me. Also I intened to buy a tablet and get into matte painting...thank you, once again, for the crit.
