I'm working on her for a short. She's my first high poly in maya (sub-d). Currently building a rig for her. Trying to get a one click smoothbind deformation (good bone placements are the key).

Do you guys think SSS is worth the wait for shorts or should I try and fake it? Crits are welcome.

the body anatomy looks natural. generally those lines need to go somewhere, probably all the way around or to the end of the mesh

the nose and mouth could be smaller. the mouth usaully ends before the middle of the eye

I'll try some mods to the face today (used photo refs for it so I guess the girl had a big nose :scream: ) The ends of the lips usually don't part that much (moved em for bone rigging reasons) Might push them in a bit more though. Thanks for the tip :)

Nice model. Maybe the belly a bit too much fat? :)

Are you worried about crimping when animating the arms to hang at her sides?

Just interested why you modeled the arms outstretched instead of at a 45 degree angle?

Note that I have not a lot of experience with this, so just wondering on your thought process.

Well I've rigged in the da vinci pose most of my life, never had any problems with the arms yet. Well don't want to make her into a coat hanger ;). Lucky thing she's not rigged yet so I can still squash and stretch elements. Might give her a slight liposucktion then :twisted:

The basic rig is setup. Still on the prowl for an ik / fk arm switch though, the 3 chain setup she has now is killing the framerate at playback.

A real question from an old and weary rigger... Do you need it? What will you be doing with this character? If you can go fk all the way for the arms then ditch the 3 bone rig and run at full frame rates... Most of my humanoid characters are upper body fk unless they're gymnastic or need surface contacts, you could create a second reference rig with stock standard ik and use that for the specific shots...

Well I usually used ik for arms at work and I was able to get decent motion arcs. Shame the basic maya IK/FK switch isn't perfect.

Well I'll be modelling clothes in the next few days anyway so the rig will be put aside for now. So far the finger setup is rigged and detachable no matter what i pick.

Tried working on the face a bit more, changed the nose and smoothed out some areas
