View Full Version : How to light a scene for Gamma = 1.8 in Mental Ray?

I've tried to make it work, but no matter how I try, the colours look washed out and flat to me!

I wanna start something here to ask people who know how to light something for gamma 1.8 or 2.2 to if possible to share the way that they light an object, any object to their satisfaction with those gamma settings.

I've also got some pieces of conflicting advice.

Some people say that you should change the gamma in the framebuffers to 1/n AND connect file textures in the scene to gamma correction nodes and set the gamma to n,n,n where n = to the desired gamma value eg. 1.8 or 2.2.

Another piece of advice says that I shouldn't have to add a gamma correction node to my file textures.

I really don't know. I'll probably try to do some testing and post me results here soon. I Hope that this will help people like me to someday understand lighting for proper gamma settings.
