View Full Version : Exploring Middle Earth - In the dark - srv

Cool ideas for contest, good chance for more practice.
I'm going to animate a boy entering a big, dark cave.
The boy will be one of those who was fighting at Helm's Deep- complete with oversized/adult armour.
He was thrown away from the human stronghold when the orcs destroyed the wall.
He ran away, pursued by orcs, until he reached what appears to be a cave entrance.

Conflict - shall he go in or stay and fight orcs. Definately doesn't want to fight orcs but cave looks very scary as well.
Resolution - draws courage and sword. Enters cave, gingerly, with sword drawn

After he enters cave there is a large tremor as the rock seems to rise up and the cave entrance closes, parts of the rock open to reveal two gigantic eyes.

I really want to emphasize the boys negotiation with himself and his situation before he enters the cave.

Good luck to everyone entering and I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the entries.

Leica Reel- -493k quicktime sor3
if link doesn't work then copy and paste to address bar.

Boy runs into scene, low angle/ perspective.
Stops in front of cave entrance, catches breath, looks around for another exit.
Turns back quickly to check orcs that are following him and backs away from them
Realises he has no other choice but to enter the cave, starts sobbing, wipes tear from eye and draws sword for courage.
Walks in sword in hands.
The cave, which is really a stone giant, opens its eyes and closes mouth/cave entrance swallowing boy.

thx ppl, very motivating, must finish this one:D
TRi- 14- yeah the acting isn't very clear at the moment, hope to do this in 3d

DIMO - Thanks, I hope I can improve it in 3D

lmc - I'm just finishing the rigging, it always takes me so long:thumbsdow

pixelkeg - Glad you like it

REZA- :)

BTW I'm considering animating the rock giant traditionally, very similarly to how I've done it in the leica reel, as it would just be simpler than trying to achieve it in 3D (especially with the limitations of this comp).

Here's an update. Very short, its just the bit where the kid runs in and stops in front of the cave. Quicktime Sorenson3 ~400k
Right click and 'save target as' should work...hopefully
