View Full Version : KrassWIP sketches.

From now on I will just post things in this thread so I don't make mess and because it is easier to keep track of things.
I did this sketch today. I've already started coloring it and the hardest part so far has got to be the racket :wise: I had to redraw it a million times with a mouse. I can tell that I am going to have my usual problems with this one. I like using shadows to define muscles, but that will end up making the character too muscular, so then I just have to settle for softer shadows and those never look right... I guess I will have to keep trying.
Thanks for looking.!

a small update. :)

The pose is nice :) I think that you should try to variate the skintones, using cold colours for the shadows and warm ones for the lighting. The waist seems too thin compared to the shoulders. I love the composition, I'm waiting for the next step :)

I agree with Dianae. I think that it feels a bit unbalanced. Have you tried getting in that pose yourself. I think you should to better understand where the weight falls.
Also, she seems to have (be?) a hunchback right now. Her left arm seems to be a bit too long and her right too short.

Thank you both for your crits. I tried to follow what you said and I think it is working :). I am feeling a little uneasy about the perspective, however.
I have colord in some of the BG to get an idea of how the colors will look together. I think I will paint her smiling because I want to show defeat as just another opportunity to learn and improve.
Thanks for stopping by!

The idea of making her smile is nice!
The ground is too vivid IMO, so it is distracting. The perspective is nice but I think that you should just rotate a little bit the girl to the left in order to give her more "weight". Her skin should reflect the ground colour ;) Her hand on the ground looks a little bit small. One thingie I've noticed : you shouldn't use neutral grey with colour, it creates a "hole" in the picture.
It's going to be nice though, I like the idea and composition!

daily update: http://krassscapes.com/images/defeatWIP4.jpg
I did not get a chance to work on the girl much, but I did a lot with the sky. I don't know if it is too obvious that the clouds should look like wings..?
Dianae, I darkened the ground quite a bit and made the shadows on her legs more blueish like the shadow on the ground. I was not sure what you meant about gray creating a "hole". Does that mean that gray should not be used much in painting ?

I got my Graphire 4 today :) I had only a couple of hours to play around with it, but I Love it . No more painting with a mouse :P This is a quick speed paint I did just to get used to it. I will post more stuff later. I know that tablets do not give you talent, but hopefuly it will alow me to improve faster :) Bye!

the face looks good so far, but it is too much red in here. the contrast between the hairs and her makeup(?) is too light. nevertheless it a good drawing.
have fun with your wacom :)

Thanks ch1nook ! It took me about an hour to get used to it and it has been a blast.
I started a second drawing, but I am still trying new techniques and ways to paint with a wacom. I used an old sketch from a few months ago. I don't know if I will finish it, but I'll have fun with it nonetheless. :)
