Last week, I commissioned Renee Dunlop (3D animator/writer) to talk to the directors of Dreamworks Animation's first animated short. Nice work. This cool little story will play before 'Over the Hedge' in cinemas.

Personaly, for someone doing a humble short like me it is greatly inspiring!
Generally, wow... please keep delivering such top articles to CG society.

Great one, thanks!

Nice article, though I wish it was more in depth. Really enjoying Dreamworks films as of late!

good read, and some nice images :)

I actually just saw this before I saw Over the Hedge.

One of my teachers worked on it.

Oh wow, I dont know what it is..but right when I saw that blue bird my eyes were just completely opened to a whole new area of creativity. I think Pixars new upcoming film teaser that I saw today (not Cars, the ratatoutie or whatever film) also helped.

Great read!!

I went for "Over the Hedge", but the cinema here didn't show this animation shorts! Any people in Malaysia has the same situation?

05-26-2006, 01:47 PM
Whaaaaa  I saw Over The Hedge the opening night and didn't see the short either. That's in Philadelphia, USA. :(

05-26-2006, 02:28 PM
aaaaaaaaaaaaah that cute little birdy.. its so cutty hutty putty.

05-26-2006, 04:30 PM
That sucks that they are just showing this at the beginning of over the hedge in select cities..:banghead:..why couldn't they just show it at the beginning everywhere....strange...well I hope it eventually makes it to the web or something so the rest of us can see it

05-26-2006, 05:01 PM
I saw OTH opening day in San Francisco, and they didnt show it there.

What gives?

05-26-2006, 06:11 PM
I'm afraid they're only showing it in Selected teathers in Los Angeles and Toronto...

05-26-2006, 06:27 PM
Sweet stuff! I remember when Kyle showed us the first Lica reel and storyboards... Congratulations on getting it all done! I can't wait to see it.

I saw the short when I was out in LA. It was a charming and visually beautiful piece, however it was very over the top with the music and storytelling. However I think this short as well as Over the Hedge is a huge step in the right direction for Dreamworks and their CG storytelling. No crazy crowd singing sequences and most of the character loops were closed at the end of the film. I had almost given up hope on Dreamworks, if the next one doesn't suck then maybe they're back in the game to play.

That is sooo cute! Can't wait to watch it ^^

Saw this short at FMX earlier this month. It's warm and full of heart. The animation and the music worked together to create a very heart-warming piece. Well done!

Congrats to Cam and Kyle. They worked like madmen on this short. Its proof that talent and downright stubbornnes in continuing and improving your ideas still makes it it in this businnes. Its good to see it finished and getting the recognition it deserves.

good job

I'm with the Albanian Foucault! How are you Ergin?! :)

Congratas to Cam and Kyle. You guys pulled it off! I can't wait to see it. :)

Awwww! I wish I had seen it! The theater I went to didn't show the short for some reason. They went right into Over the Hedge. :(

The curse of the 'selected cinemas' strikes again.

05-29-2006, 10:54 AM
When are Dreamworks going to make something unique?
"Armageddon" > "Deep Impact"
"small soldiers" > "toy story"
"shrek" > "monsters, inc."
"antz" > "a bug's life"
"Flushed Away" > "Ratatouille"
"The Da Vinci Code" > "National Treasure"
"Madagasca" > "The Great Escape from City Zoo"
"First Flight" > "The Singing Hat"

05-29-2006, 06:22 PM
Yea i agree... Dreamworks doesn't really make anything unique..

05-29-2006, 09:17 PM
Ufff, Dreamworks making shortfilms like pixar, this can be great dudes, i can't wait to see it.

05-29-2006, 11:30 PM
