View Full Version : Coconut Postcard [WIP]

Cover art for sheet music of the same name. I'm pretty darn new to painting and I feel that I haven't learned to "see" it that well yet. Feedback will not be wasted!

Thank you for looking,

Nice idea and I love the bright colors, but there's something wrong with the perspective. I guess to make the coconut that large, the viewer would have to be very close, and it would take up more than half of the picture... if not, then the trees would be smaller, or maybe there just aren't enough ripples between the coconut and the island to create a sense of enough distance. Also, the coconut lacks the texture on the "front" that it has on the sides. Can't wait to see more work done on this, I think this has a lot of potential. I'd love to see an actual postcard like this.

That's what I get for *thinking* the perspective is okay without actually checking it. I'd have to make the coconut less than half its current size to play by the rules. Hmm--if I lower the horizon line and add more ripples (thanks!) I should be able to get closer without dramatic changes. Update soon!

I agree that the perspective is incorrect, but other than that I think it looks great overall. I really like the color scheme and the art style. The island, trees, grass, and the coconuts look very good. Shouldn't the water be more transparent given the proximity to the shore?
