These are the rules:
You have 30, (count them 30!) minutes to do your sketch. IF you go beyond the
assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has
expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
You can post an entry at anytime for the topic presented on this thead BEFORE the voting thread for THE WEEK has been posted.
The artist also has to post total length of time it took and program used.
Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
The topics will be picked at random from the list on the TOPICS thread >>LINK<< (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=145003)
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them).

Wasn't May 15th going to be "Dune" day Roberto?
Edit: ah yeah, alternate topic for non sci-fi nerds, my mistake. :)

It's not that I don't like the DUNE, but I've never read the book or saw the film
and Sinbad our handsome sailor is also very fun to draw ^^

The Old Man of the Sea takes Sinbad slave and rides him around. (5th voyage)

Total time ~45 minutes; OpenCanvas for initial sketch; coloring and clean up in ArtRage2; Post-processing in GIMP.
I forgot to set my alarm, so I went a little over. The last 20 minutes or so was spent on coloring and background. To simulate what it looked like at 30 minutes, squint!
The sword is a little off and face is incomplete - er and somewhere a lot of ribs disappeared -- but time is fleeting.
FridayEve, excellent as always. I always thought the old man riding Sinbad (near to death) was very creepy. It looks like Sinbad's expression here is a cross between weariness and exasperation.
cLos71, pose reads well. Good action shot.
audit, bright color palette, very pirate-like. The island is appropriately mysterious.
Lunae, very good character study. The cloth is well represented in outline only, a neat trick! He reeks of attitude.

Done in Painter 9, in 30 minutes. I'd like to have have drawn a scene with the Rocs, but I had drawn a similar creature on Sunday :P

FridayEve, great submission as always! If you made the hand a little brighter, it'd make the picture easier to read. Fantastic though!http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/2237/sinbad5di.jpg
