I hope it's visible enough (I'm not sure about my monitor calibration)

~30 min

~30 min

Its actually very dark, i can see it only if i mess with my monitors atributes. Or if i look at my monitor from an above angle. But i like it

05-11-2006, 09:46 PM
Sorry about the overdarkness. And sorry for the compression of the file, only now I have noticed.
I should try to fix the image without ruining it any further.

41 minutes, PS.
Couldn't really think of anything to add without overdetailing. The colors and graininess are sort of what a person might see things like if they wake up in the middle of the night. Abnormal semi-monster children are scared of nightly monsters too.

CrimsonString - I had to load it into Gimp and bump the contrast WAY up to see it... But that's a great creature design.

Who wants to play? 40 minutes in Painter.

12 mnts

Hi all! This is my first time doing the daily sketch group. It sounds like it's a lot of fun, so I will try to keep it up! =)

This character is a mutant who is shunned by society, therefore she can only come out at night while everyone else is asleep. She is constantly mutating and adapting to her environment. She has adapted somewhat to the night environment so far by developing glowing eyes and shimmering skin.

50 Minutes - Photoshop

Well, The creature should be barely visible, coming out of the fog, but I guess I have overdone it. It looks ok on my screen so I can't really tell how it should be.
I switched to LCD monitor recently and it seems I can't adjust to it. Any advices?

And why is the image so full of artifacts? I checked the saving options and they are at high (8) quality. I painted before at 72 px/inch(most of my DSF sketches) and it looked right, unlike now. What could be the problem?

I adjusted the contrast, but to me it doesn't look much like night now. And the artifacts are more visible.

right down to the buzzer 50mins PS

Wow CaveatScoti - so nice for just 40mins
Great atmosphere Crimsonstring
Well orchestrated Eishiya - nicely coloured

amadeus, hehehehe, thanks for a less-than scary pic :)

eishiya, I love that composition, great work

Caveat, oj, that is really creepy...

crimson, great lighting for the scary and ominous

digital, wonderful expressions! good gesture capturing there

here's mine, 45 mins pencil & paper, then a bit of line darkening in Painter 8...

05-12-2006, 07:34 AM
zombie mormon :) hehehe. thought there was a nice kind of irony there. Plus most people already hide when they come to the door so this guy is doubly scary!
(i know they hunt in pairs but i cut the second guy due to the time thing).

about an hour but thats including a coffee break. Still prolly a little over time tho.
pretty happy for the time limit. im getting faster :D eeeeeheee!
ref used :

photoshop. tablet.

50 mins/ photoshop / wacom

This is old ghost story in my country.

05-12-2006, 03:06 PM
Is this Mae Nak? (probably spelled that wrong even in english) I only know the name because of a close Thai friend we have who has told us a lot about her homeland, so forgive me it that is a really bad guess :)

edit: lunae, just noticed the person! haha, very well done

05-12-2006, 03:38 PM
I can't tell if I'm getting faster from practice or just worse at telling time... the first one was done in about 30 minutes and the second in 50 minutes. Both are Painter.

I know they aren't very original, but nightmarish things were all I could think about with this topic =)

Mae Nak is another story.
This one is "Kaseur"
She only comes with her head and blink entrails at night.
At daytime she is a normally beautiful woman.

This is Thai Movie about Kaseur

05-14-2006, 07:11 PM
Another experiment-A little over the time limit.

05-15-2006, 03:39 AM
Haven't done any sketching at all, so I'm back.I'm surprised noone did this, 45 min PS

05-16-2006, 12:16 AM
Now, I'm not anywhere near as good as most of the people who post in here, but I figure a quick sketch each day could help, and I like this topic. I hope I'm not too late posting here...

Done in Photoshop in 48 minutes.

05-16-2006, 08:11 PM
This is late but my internet wasn't working, or I'd have done it earlier. I don't mind if its too late though, I wanted to draw it :D It's a kelpie, evil water horse type creature... I tend to draw a lot of them, hehe. I don't like this one much, but ah well, it was good practice.

50 minutes on the dot (Hence scribbles) in photoshop.
