View Full Version : Lighting for 3d motion Gfx

I am hitting a bit of a wall when it comes to lighting in 3D apps.

I have succesfull experience with Lightwave and have moved to Maya in my current job. I can light a flying logo OK, I guess I've had more "happy accidents" than expected outcomes. And I'm looking to expand to more complex scenes with more environmental objects and camera movements through them.

I'm not necessarily looking for "realistic" lighting because i want quick render/turn-around times.
Ya know, mograph lighting!

I suppose my question is how do you guys light your projects? Both flying logos and environmental scenes (for motion graphics). I know each project is unique and requires a new solution, but are there particular concepts or base rigs that you start from to achieve you results?

Or is it just futzing around until you get what you like?

I would really appreciate any suggestions, links or direction from the community.
